Bike Safety

Does your son ride his bike to school?

We ask all parents speak to their sons about safety when riding a bike to and from school.

Recently we have received an increase in the number reports from the public about St Bede’s College students, riding dangerously through the side streets of Mentone and Parkdale.  Some students show little or no regard for pedestrians, traffic or road rules. In some cases, we have received reports of students riding motorised bikes, without a helmet, placing themselves and others in danger.

This behavior is reckless and unacceptable.

The College will speak with local authorities about this behavior and encourage them to increase patrols and issue fines to offending cyclists. Traffic congestion in the area around the Mentone school precinct has increased greatly and we fear a tragedy may occur if the attitude of our cyclists does not change.

Please help us in our effort to keep our boys safe on the road.

Finally, a reminder to all students that an approved helmet should be worn correctly at all times when riding a bike.
