Geelong Mums Donation Drive

In our Senior VCAL class at MFG we are completing complex community projects.

Geelong Mums was established in 2013 after being inspired by St Kilda Mums. Kate Betts and four other local mums started this organisation out of a small shed and their own homes. They work alongside already existing social services and maternal health workers and aim to rehome pre-loved nursery goods to support families in need while saving earths recourses. They collect items to distribute to struggling families with babies, toddlers and school aged children.

Geelong Mums now work from a warehouse in South Geelong and have helped over 300 families, but rely on volunteers and donations to run.

We chose to work with this organisation focusing on our chosen community issue that is “Struggling Single Parents”.

To support Geelong Mums, we are running a school wide donation drive that launched on the 10th of September. This will close Thursday 17th of October.

Geelong Mums are in desperate need of the following items:

  • Nappies and wipes
  • Children’s toiletries (soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste)
  • Babies toiletries (body wash, soap, barrier cream, moisturiser)
  • Adult Toiletries (body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste)
  • New children’s undies and socks up to size 14

In saying this, they also accept children’s clothing, quality nursery equipment, books and toys at any time and these donations will be accepted during this drive.

There will be donation drop off boxes clearly marked near the new and old office, at the canteen and at the house leaders’ office.

Any donations big or small are greatly appreciated.

We thank you for your time and effort and hope that together we can provide enough support to help this community issue.
