Community Art

The Year 9 Community Art class worked through the Art Design Process to create 3 amazing murals located on our school carparks off Pheonix Drive. They came up with the idea to paint on the Carparks after looking at numerous ideas for creating a Community Art Project. They had many decisions to make:

Working in groups – Yes or no. Who will be in each group?

Who is going to Lead? What form of Leadership??

What theme for the painting?

What to include in the painting?

Who is going to do what? – who has the strongest skills in doing….. ?

What is in the final design? Including colours….

Has the mural met their goal?

Along the way they faced many challenges. They worked through the problems/difficulties to find solutions, that everyone in their team was on board with.

I am so very proud of them all. There are three excellent artworks now on display for our College Community and also the wider community to view. They say a lot about the values of our school and how well grounded our kids are. Well done the Community Art class of 2021.

The Murals: in progress

Mural 1

"We choose to focus on how animals are having their homes destroyed and are having them taken over by people. We have Jett, Josh, Jack, Kaleb and Ethan in our group.
We all chose our own parts of the painting to paint, so we would one day have a couple of people on the city and another on the trees. We had Jack focus on a bit of everything.  Josh and Ethan focused on the city and tree, Kaleb and Jett did the road etc.
There are a lot of difficulties that arose while in a group, it can be hard to agree on the designs and colours to use.  There was a lot of space to work with there, so we could do everything we wanted to do with the painting.
The best part of the car park was putting down the base of the drawing and being able to complete what we had made on Paper into an amazing Artwork".

Mural 2

"Our theme was Endangered Australian Animals. Those who worked on the mural consisted of group members Chris, Giselle, Jess, May and Elle.
Our first design was the koala sitting in the tree, which Chris and May worked on. Our second design was the seal on the iceberg and the penguins in front, the two that worked on this piece were Jess and Gisele. Our third and final design was the kangaroo, wallaby and the wombat in the Australian outback, was completed by May, Chris and Elle.

On the carpark we accidentally got some paint outside of the painting, so we fixed it by putting grey paint over it. Most of the issues we had were easily fixed we just had to let the paint dry and then we could paint over it. The most difficult part of creating such an artwork was managing each painting and ensuring that everyone was participating in the progress of our community-driven piece. Of course, there were minor difficulties in the details of the painting, but ultimately, we were able to work together to overcome obstacles and arguments.
The car parks turned out well and they really showed what we wanted it to. The whole group worked really hard on the project.

The best part of painting the car park was the experience of painting something that everyone in the community can enjoy".

Mural 3

"Our theme is for the mural was exploring inclusivity among the LGBTQ+ community and P.O.C (people of colour). Our group included the year 9 students Daniel, Linda, Joy, Lilian, Yecheng and Delphi. We worked on creating an artwork that included a wide variety of people so that it would be both well received and liked by so many people.

Delphi combined our designs and she did the final design. Daniel painted and he held the tape. Linda helped around and she mixed colours. Lilian mixed colours and fixed some areas that’s been painted by a different colour. Joy painted the face and the emotion on the person. Yecheng fixed the outlines of the carpark and she helped mixing colours. Everyone helped paint the flags.

We did find some difficulties, including having no tubs for paint, to overcome this we cleaned out existing tubs to make more colours of paints.  We also found it quite hard to get the lines perfectly straight, to overcome this we got tape and lined it up along the previous lines to correct it and make it look much cleaner and better.

We enjoyed working together as a group while we each evenly distributed work. Daniel enjoyed spending time with everyone and holding down the tape trying to maintain a straight line. Delphi and Linda liked the painting process and seeing the end result. Lilian and YeCheng enjoyed mixing the vibrant colours together.

Our team is happy with the final artwork, it turned out how we wanted it to. Even though we hit difficulties at times we got through them and created the artwork we did".

Staff Versus Yr 12 Student Games

Year 12 students have been excited by the introduction of Year 12 students versus Staff Games on Friday's at lunchtime.

Our first session kicked off on Friday 21st May with Volleyball as the chosen game for the day. There was a great crowd in attendance with students from all year levels and staff that came along to cheer the competitors.
