Leader of Curriculum News

Dear Parents and Carers,

NESA has announced some changes to the HSC for 2021. Please see the attached media release.

Below is a summary of the information we know to date. Marian will strive to keep our students up to date with the latest developments and work to ensure no student is disadvantaged during these extraordinary times.

Dear Colleagues,

Following a meeting of the NESA COVID-19 Response Committee earlier in the week, the Committee agreed to:

  • Reschedule the written exams to begin one week later on 19 October with HSC results out on 17 December.
  • Extend the hand in date for all major projects by two weeks. The hand-in date for Industrial Technology has been extended by four weeks
  • Reschedule Drama performance exams to run from 6 to 17 September
  • Music performance exam continue as scheduled, running from 30 August to 10 September

Pleasingly, this was the position advocated by Catholic Schools NSW on behalf of the Catholic Education Sector.

Chair of the Committee Professor Peter Shergold has said that students could still receive their results, ATAR and university offers this year despite written exams being delayed by a week.

Year 10 into Year 11 Subject Selections

I will be meeting with all year 10 students on Friday 30th July to inform them of the process and information needed to meet NESA and/or ATAR requirements in stage 6. Students will also have the opportunity to discuss perspective courses with the respective Subject Coordinator at a Subject Fair held in the hall.

Ideally a parent/student Information Night would be scheduled to also inform parents/guardians of the process and information needed to meet NESA and/or ATAR requirements in stage 6. However, due to COVID 19 restrictions, this is not possible. To help with this process, Marian has designed a web page with video information on:

NESA/ATAR requirements and the selection process

              Extension, VET and Major Works

              Careers and differing pathways available

              Individual course information

In the past, we have also offered the opportunity for students, with their parent or guardian, to be invited to sit down with a senior member of staff to discuss their individual pathway and/or subject selections. Zoom interviews will be organised instead on 13th August. Bookings will be similar to those for parent/teacher interviews. Students will not attend school on this day.

The first round subject selection form will then be due on Monday 16th August.

I urge all students and parents to keep these dates in mind when planning in term 3. It is important that all students are correctly informed when making decisions about the correct course selection/pathway for them in stage 6.

Regards
