Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

The Summit Camp

The Year 5/6 students had an amazing time at The Summit last week. They learned some valuable life skills, pushed themselves out of their comfort zone whist having fun. At the Summit there were 5 keys that everyone had to live by:

1. Have Fun

2. Play All In

3. Make lots of Mistakes

4. Get Comfortable being uncomfortable

5. Do not go home wondering what if!

For each activity the students were encouraged to push out of their comfort zone by identifying their target, stretch and their super stretch. The staff were extremely helpful, engaging and supportive of the students and teachers alike to have fun and made sure that no one went home wondering what if! A big thank you to our parent helpers David and Kerri and our E.S. staff member Jane. We could not have done it without you! Everyone has made some lasting memories of their time on camp that we are sure will be remembered in the future. Despite the mud and the rain everyone had an awesome time. These are some of the camper’s reflections of The Summit:

On the 14th of July, the Maramba Year 5/6 students went the Summit Adventure to have 3 days of non-stop fun! While we were on the bus, I played Uno with my friend Louis and when we got there we took our bags up to our assigned tent cabins, I took the top bunk and we had lunch and played games in our free time. When it was activity time we headed into the BBQ shelter to be assigned groups, I was in group 4 and our first activity was the initiative activity, to get from point A to point B as a team using tiles. Next, we had the scavenger hunt, we had to find things and do activities together. And our last activity was the high wire, climbing up a tree with your friends pulling you up using a pully and then fall from a wire in between those trees. And then after some free time we had a scrumptious chicken schnitzel dinner. It was very hard sleeping as there was a lot of outside noise and we slept past midnight. Gitansh

We went on the bus to The Summit in Trafalgar for our school camp. Once we were there, we got our bags and went to our tents. We had one hour to do whatever we wanted and then went to the BBQ shelter. They told us our groups and we went off to our first activity but beforehand we had to complete a teamwork task. We had to go through holes in a net, but everyone had to go through a different hole. My first activity was Tash’s Ladder where we had to climb a big tower and then the ladder at the top, then we could choose if we wanted to let go. I did but I thought I was going to fall so I hooked my elbow around the edge.

After the high wire, we did Laser Skirmish. We had to run around and try not to get hit by the laser lights other people were shooting. It was so much fun. Red team won, which was my team. We went to have a snack break, then headed off to the double big swing. I partnered with Kaylee for the big swing and we had lots of fun. Others had to pull the rope to the level we wanted, which was green – the highest level for one of Australia’s biggest swings! To make us swing, we had to pull a rope which was really hard and that released the swing. We flew through the air like a flying taco! It was so much fun! I felt so brave. Amber

On the last day, we started with the inflatable course. It was fun racing each other. We then went on the giant swing. I cannot believe I chose the highest point but it was really fun as Lincoln and myself were making funny noises. I finally got to be able to go on the flying fox and I went really fast. Just before were about to leave and I was chosen by my team to go into the tank. My team said I went crazy in the mud run. As we were leaving the camp on the bus, we all waved good bye to the people that worked at the Summit. William

After experiencing on the giant swing our team was even more confident to play all in! They finished the rest of the activities with no struggle whatsoever! Except... The Monster course! “Duhn, Duhn, Duuuuuuuuuuu!” Macey was doing so good until, her foot got caught in the net and she could not move! She screamed at the top of her lungs “HELP!”. A girl named Arabella, who was from another team, jumped back in just to save Macey’s life because of that, the teams joined together as one. They were called the ‘Flying Zinger Tacos!’. Macey was still frightened but kept on going for a second round! Macey

Day two, our first activity was the high wire which was climbing on the tree on a thick rope balancing it. There were two jobs climber and belayers. Belayers are meant to tighten the rope while the climber was climbing so if they fell off, you will not fall instantly to the ground. When it was my turn to be a climber my partner was Omer. He got to the top of the ladder and went back down again where as I climbed to the top of the rope. At first without holding the support rope my knees were shaking but once I saw the support rope I continued on forward. Once I came to the middle, I drop down slowly thanks to the belayers. Nick

Thank you to the Year 5/6 teachers Vicki Gollin, Jess Warner and Nancy Walker for organising such a fabulous camp that everyone involved will have lasting memories of.

Kind regards,
