More than a day!

Having an understanding and appreciation for Australia's First Nations people, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander's, is something that we as a team of educators at Curiosity work to integrate in what we present to our children daily.

However on the 4th of August, we celebrate the strength and culture of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.  It is an opportunity for us to show our support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

In the school holidays, our Lead Educators attended the Connected Schools Reconciliation Action Plan Vision Day where the Vision Statement for the Connected Schools Reconciliation Action Plan was launched.  The Key note speaker, Brooke Prentis (a Wakka Wakka woman) shared with us that, "Reconciliation is achievable in our humanness as we look into each other's eyes and search for truth, justice, action and love."  She encouraged us to walk gently amongst each other, with open hands and be hospitable with a generous spirit.  What a powerful and beautiful way to express a desire to live in harmony.

Once our Connected Schools Reconciliation Action Plan Vision Statement is released, we will be looking at creating a Reconciliation Action Team at Curiosity.  This team will be inclusive of all stakeholders within our community.  If being part of this team is something that you might like to be part of, I would love to hear from you.  An information session will be held to share the vision and purpose of this team later on in the year.
