Wellbeing

Growing Strong Minds Strength Based Parenting Sessions

Our school is implementing a wellbeing package called Strong Minds. It is a whole school approach to wellbeing for all children in K-6, staff, parents and carers. It is based on developing twenty-four scientifically validated character strengths. Research into character strengths indicates that when we know and apply our top five signature strengths, our wellbeing improves. Signature strengths have also been found to be positively associated with academic performance, motivation and effort (Lounsbury, Fisher, Levy, & Welsh, 2009). The student lessons will be delivered by the Classroom Teacher next term as part of the Personal Development and Health education curriculum.

Thank you to the parents and carers who attended the Growing Strong Minds Strength Based Parenting Session on Tuesday afternoon to learn about how they can support their children with identifying and promoting character strengths.

We encourage you to find out your top strengths by completing the free VIA Survey at: https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register

Wellbeing at Dundas PS

The Wellbeing Framework supports schools to create safe, supportive learning environments. At Dundas PS, our processes and practices align with this framework, enabling all students to connect, succeed and thrive. Pivotal documents to support the wellbeing of our students, are:

DPS Values and Expectations Matrix - a set of behavioural expectations, for all settings within the school, underpinned by our school values of being a Safe, Respectful, and Successful Learner.

DPS Awards Tree - outlines our systems to acknowledge and celebrate the positive behaviours demonstrated by our students.
