Spotlight on Students

Kindergarten Farmers Market

Throughout term 2, Kindergarten have been learning about the process of ‘paddock to plate’. They have been exploring how food and fibre is grown and harvested from the farm and the importance of farming. On Tuesday 22nd June, Kindergarten hosted a farmer’s market.  They sold their own products which were made using produce from a range of farms. The student’s goal was to teach their customers about their products and that farms are special places. All of the children had a great day and were extremely excited to sell what they had made to their parents, siblings, teachers and the year 5 students. The market was very successful, with us raising over $1000 that will go towards helping bushfire affected koalas at the koala hospital. Kindergarten would like to thank our school community for their support.

Year 1 Dinosaur Museum

Year 1 students at Dundas Public School have been studying 'The Land Before Time' in science. They visited The Australian Museum to learn about dinosaurs and how they can showcase their knowledge in an informative display. Yesterday Year 1 had their own Dinosaur Museum. The students were very excited as they shared their knowledge on various dinosaurs and encouraged the museum visitors (Year 1 parents and carers) to interact with their exhibits using all of their senses. Congratulations to the Year 1 team of Mrs Zalaf, Mrs Green and Mr Jones for leading this amazing initative at DPS.

PSSA Soccer Round 7 Recap –  Soccer Teams

PSSA was back after 2 long weeks. The Dundas soccer B team had an interesting return with the seniors having a bye and the junior’s game being called off due to an injury in the other team. The juniors were up 1-0 after 5 minutes thanks to Jeffrey.S when unfortunately, the game had to be called off. On the other hand, it was an amazing return to PSSA for the 2 A teams! After 2 weeks of wet weather, both teams came back with determination and grit to secure 2 massive wins. Junior A’s won 5-0 with Zane.E scoring a hat trick and Justin.M being named player of the match! A huge credit to the junior side as they helped fill in for numbers for the opposing team due to injuries! The seniors followed in similar fashion, with the score being 0-0 at half time. They came out firing in the second half scoring 6 goals to win 6-0! Luke.B scored a hat trick in a player of the match performance, while Daniel.S was solid at right back and Carson.S dribbled through nearly the whole team to cap off a great performance. Both teams showed great sportsmanship and played their best games yet! Let’s hope they can continue this form in Tem 3! Well done boys and girls!

SRC Outdoor Reading Area

The SRC is very excited to be creating an Outdoor Reading Area (ORA) to enhance our playground and promote reading for leisure. Research indicates that reading for enjoyment not only boosts educational outcomes for children, but also enhances their emotional understanding. It promotes imagination, creativity, relaxation, improved self-esteem, intellectual pleasure, enhanced general knowledge, emotional intelligence and mental health benefits. Reading for pleasure has been found to enhance social interaction and personal relationships; empower children to become active citizens, to improve a sense of connectedness with the wider community and to further tolerance and understanding of other cultures.

Our school is working in partnership with the local community to set up a calm, pleasant and inviting outdoor space in our playground where students can enjoy reading their favourite books during break times. Bunnings will be donating plants, timber and materials to construct the reading benches. The Telopea Shed have kindly offered to construct the reading benches. Mrs Shipley has generously donated outdoor bean bags.
