Update:  Junior School

This week, I have had the pleasure of attending our Years 7-12 DARE assemblies.  For many of our junior Year 7 and 8 students, and some of our staff who joined us in 2020, this is their first experience of a DARE Assembly at Auburn High School.  The purpose of these year level celebrations is to acknowledge the positive contributions students have made within their learning, their classroom and their year level community.  Students are nominated by their teachers and awarded certificates for demonstrating the DARE values. It was fantastic to see so many students receiving their bronze extracurricular badges as well. The student leaders were organised and spoke with confidence and clarity in front of their peers.

Year 9 Morrisby

During eLearning Day, our Year 9 students completed their Morrisby career profile.  The Morrisby career profiling is a two-phase process to support students with their career and subject planning now and into the future.  Students will have lifetime access to their profile and can retake assessments as their interests and preferences change over time.  Phase I is the online assessment process through which students will gain personal insights into their strengths and abilities and gain an awareness of various potential career pathways tailored to who they are.  Phase II is the opportunity for students (and parents) to discuss their results one-on-one with a Morrisby trained career consultant.  These interviews are scheduled to happen at school during the week of 26th to 30th July to align with our subject selection process.

DNB Written Examinations

Our Year 9 French Binational Students may breathe a sigh of relief as they have completed their final exams for the Diplome National du Brevet.  Well done for your dedication throughout your studies, especially during your final weeks leading up to your exams.

Professional Learning

Teach the Teacher

Teach the Teacher is an opportunity for students to facilitate a workshop with teachers, highlighting strengths from our PIVOT cycle 2 survey, and discussing strategies to address areas for improvement.  These workshops are highly effective and provide a common platform for students and teachers to collaboratively influence teaching and learning in the classroom.  Our focus in Term 3 is enhancing the way teachers check for understanding within a lesson.  Students and teachers worked together to decide on strategies to trial in Term 3.

Tracking Coursework: Year 9

This year, we have revisited the importance of organisation.  Student feedback has emphasised that when teachers actively collect and check submission of student work, students are better able to manage their time and stay accountable for the tasks that need to be completed.  In Term 2, Year 9 teachers trialled a variety of different tracking tools and have decided on a consistent template for Term 3.  We will be trialling this with our Year 9 students to support them as they transition to senior school next year.  Stay tuned to Compass to see this next term!
