Elective Drama

In Drama, before the lockdown, we had been focusing on creating realistic and believable characters. Students were practising creating characters using props as their inspiration. The first props the students used were scarves. Each student randomly pulled a scarf out of a box and had to make a character to go with the scarf. The students then repeated the process, but they had to find a different use for the scarf. The students were very creative and turned the scarves into bandanas, long hair, beards, sashes, belts, capes and skirts.

The students then had to undertake the same process, but this time they had a selection of hats to choose from. Students chose a hat and put it on and then created a character in keeping with the style of the hat. The students then got together in groups of three and had to create a short play for their respective characters. The students did a great job of creating characters and improvising plays on the spot, with no preparation time.

Stage 1 Classroom Wrap up

In Science, Stage 1 has been looking at different materials and how they change. We made playdough in all different colours. We then wrote a procedure on ‘How to make playdough’. Using our playdough, we then looked at what happens when we stretch, roll, twist, bend, pinch and fold it. Our favourite part was when we got to use a little bit of each coloured playdough and make our own character. We showed the class our characters and made up a story about who it is, where it came from and why it came to visit Stage 1.

Also, this term, Stage 1 has been learning about procedures and fractions. We all listened to instructions on ‘How to make Fairy Bread’. When our fairy bread was completed, we used our knowledge of fractions to cut our bread into halves and then into quarters. Our favourite part was eating it. We then drew and wrote down the steps on our own using verbs to explain what to do.

Stage 2 Crimson Report

This term we have been playing prodigy for free time. Prodigy is a computer game that helps you with learning maths. It is fun to play because you get to battle people and get to upgrade your levels. We also play dodgeball in PE and sometimes in sport because we are learning to master the dodge and the vertical jump.

From Ms. Kelson's Desk

We’ve had a lot of fun this term so far and learnt lots of new things. We studied measurement in mathematics, and we’ve been continuing to read Wolf Girl 4, which the students really enjoy - “Miss! Can we read another chapter?”

We completed some NAIDOC Week activities and have been making some wonderful artworks in the style of indigenous paintings.

We also celebrated a 100% attendance day earlier this term, where every student in Crimson class was present at school at the same time! I’d love to see this happen every week.

Learning from Home

Kindergarten student, Damien spent hours creating a wonderful model out of cardboard. He enjoyed showing his creation to his classmates during a Zoom session.

William and his brother Edward enjoyed using mathematical skill while they ‘shopped’ with their play money to buy their morning tea.

William Stevens and his mum had fun making a bouquet of flowers for William’s kindergarten teacher.

Stage 1 Lime and Stage 1 Mint have been working on extremely important projects this week, stubby holders for Fathers Day for that special person in their life.

Indigo Atkin was excited to get creative with this project and can not wait to suprise her Dad with his personalised gift on Sunday.

Kindergarten student, Freddie tried to get out of home schoolwork by saying he was stuck in a box…

But Freddie didn’t realise he could be posted to

his desk to do his school work!

Our essential workers students are also embracing on-line learning.

Stage 2 Rose

We are very proud of our Stage 2 Rose students' effort with home learning. Thank you very much parents and carers for supporting our students while they are learning from home. Stage 2 students have been doing a fantastic job, either collecting and completing the paper packs or accessing the online learning packages, or a combination of both. Our paper packs and online learning are mirrored activities. This means that we have been provided with the online learning link and a printed version of the work has also been provided by the Education Department. Therefore students will be able to do the same work , either on paper or online.

We are very excited to have Miss Moorhead working with Stage 2 for her practicum for University for the last 4 weeks of term. Miss Moorhead has been running a range of engaging activities for students in our zooms. Stage 2 has a 10am zoom where we check in with students and discuss their school work. We also have a 2pm zoom which has a wellbeing focus.

Let’s get to know Miss Moorhead:

What has been your favourite part of your prac so far?

Completing my prac online has been an eye opening experience! I have been positively surprised with how well the students have been working and collaborating within our zoom sessions as well as through our online Classroom platform. My favorite part of prac so far has been watching the students connect with their friends over zoom. The students get so excited to see their friends and teachers every day, which is amazing to watch and be a part of. I would like to thank Guyra Central School and Stage 2 for allowing me to complete my practicum during these difficult and uncertain times.

I hope to see all of Stage 2 in person very soon!
