Principals Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Community members,

I am working from home today and acknowledge the challenges presented by my beautiful four-legged friend, Fidel, wanting to play and demanding to be hugged all day. With my own children grown and working in another state and country I do acknowledge that I have no full concept of the challenges that you are all facing while trying to work from home and oversee the learning from home program with your children. I do know that it can’t be easy. Please understand that our school resources, including the collective knowledge and support from our Guyra Central School staff members is available for you, to support you and your family. I would like to acknowledge the work that is being done by the whole Guyra Central School staff and compliment our parents and carers for their patience and engagement with staff to ensure that our students/children remain engaged with their learning.

Everyone in NSW must abide by current Department of Health rulings and I am working each day to stay informed around the restrictions and possible easing of restrictions as they come to hand. Things have remained the same these past few weeks and I believe that this is because everyone has been so compliant and supportive from within our community. I thank you for your support for us at the school, keeping your children at home with you and providing a safe learning environment for students who must attend as children of essential workers. We have been able to minimise staff of site for supervision through your efforts.

I am pleased to announce that our Year 12 students will be able to attend school for face to face lessons, 2 hours per day, starting from Monday 6th September 2021. A roster outlining what this can look like, while observing COVID safety rules, has been distributed to all Year 12 students. Congratulations to our Year 12 and their teachers who were able to complete and submit major works projects by 3 p.m. on Thursday 2nd September 2021. Extraordinarily difficult circumstances with remarkable results. Congratulations. We are hoping for announcements from NESA in coming days around the HSC 2021. I am aware of how stressful the waiting is for our students. There is so much to be considered and I believe there is a genuine desire to make decisions that are equitable, hence the delay and deliberation. I am hoping that a clearer picture will emerge around what this looks like, moving forward during the back end of next week.

Please stay safe everyone. You are doing a great job supporting your children/s learning. I hope you having some Arha! moments and get the chance to learn something about them each day and enjoy the opportunity to develop deeper relationships with some of our staff who you may not have had the chance to connect with in the parts.

Please contact me through the school if you would like to discuss anything with me.

Thanks

Michelle Nicholson
