Students have made a good, solid start to the term and all appear to be generally on track. Mr Kenny has returned from sick leave and is eager to continue various building projects. Thanks to Mr Will Forrest who offered a wealth of knowledge and training to the students in Mr Kenny’s absence.
Parent Interviews
Thank you to all parents who attended the parent interviews on the last day of last term. It was a great opportunity for staff to be able to give positive feedback and make comments about areas of improvement, with both the parent and the student present in some cases. For parents who could not attend, if you have any concerns or queries about your son’s/daughter’s interim report please do not hesitate to contact the respective teacher.
Building and Construction
Sheep Shed Fit-out
The students have commenced the works on the sheep hub. Mr Steve Adams is rapt to see his design starting to take place. When Mr Adams was asked about his thoughts on the progress so far he responded with ‘it hasn’t rained yet’. Typical farm cocky.
Workshop Benches
Students are completing a fabrication exercise of work benches for the Construction workshop. This includes metal fabrication and welding, fitting vices and working with timber.
Open Day
Staff and students have been preparing for the annual Open Day and are looking forward to showcasing their workshops and the work they have been undertaking. The staff and students are looking forward to seeing both old and new faces on the day. Make sure you call in and speak to the staff and students.
Uniforms
Students are reminded and parents are asked to please check with your son/daughter, that they have the correct uniform and it is in good condition. Some students have recently been spoken to about the poor condition of their Trades uniforms. These need to be replaced or repaired. Please refer to the College Handbook for the correct uniform, or contact the College. Some second hand items may be available.
Apprenticeships and Career Opportunities
It is around this time of the year that the major companies involved in the trade areas start their recruitment processes for the next intake of their apprentices. Students interested in pursuing an apprenticeship need to be proactively seeking out these opportunities. As the College becomes aware of such opportunities these will be advertised in the College HAC Chat and our Facebook page.
If there are any questions in regards to your son’s/daughter’s progress or the courses on offer please do not hesitate to contact me at the College.
