This term students have been rostered onto farm sections in blocks so they can consolidate learning and see various tasks through from start to finish. The aim is to complete units of competency one at a time and deliver improved continuity to the overall program. Some students have made excellent progress with their Practical and Theory based components while others are requiring a little more support to complete some of the activities. Mr Harger will be available during "prep” on Wednesdays to support these students.

Farm Skills Practice

The College will be attending Farm Skills later in Term 3. Mr Millichamp and I have started the initial planning.  Students will be asked shortly to express interest in representing the College and from that list we will apply the selection criteria. Skills, knowledge and attributes will be considered such as Team Work Skills, Specialist Skills and Course Work in Farm Qualifications. Students cannot be on conditional status and will be required to commit some time to “out of hours” training.

Western Dairy

On Friday June 7 we will be hosting representatives from Western Dairy who will talk to all Year 12 Farm students regarding ten Traineeships being offered in 2020 on farms in the South West. These Traineeships are not being offered to the broader public and only students from the WA Colleges of Agriculture in Harvey and Denmark can apply. In effect, there is guaranteed work and training for the period of one year to those who may wish to apply and are successful.

After lunch on Friday 21 June any student and/or parents interested in talking directly with representatives from Western Dairy and employers will have an opportunity to ask further questions. I encourage parents to be involved in this process as this is a very good opportunity for students to receive further training and qualifications while being paid, with a one year commitment.
