MELBOURNE MUSEUM EXCURSION

On Thursday the 3rd of November, the Senior students were lucky enough to head off to the Melbourne Museum for our Inquiry unit on Adaptations.

Unfortunately, the projector at IMAX was not working so we missed out on our ‘Dinosaurs of Antarctica 3D’ movie, but the lovely staff at the Museum allowed us into the new light and show exhibit, ‘Tyama: A Deeper Sense Of Knowing’. Tyama (pronounced chah-muh) is the Keerray Woorroong language verb meaning ‘to know’. It was all about knowing with our minds and our body. We listened closely with all our senses and were able to chase pheromones with moths, use sounds to see like a bat, learn from fish to sense without touch and swim with whales to discover songlines.

After the show, we headed into the museum to look at the Dinosaur Walk, Bugs Alive and 600 Million years exhibitions. These are always great to look at and learn from. Plus, we loved looking at all the bugs and spiders!

After lunch and a play at the park nearby, the students were ready for the Triceratops Adapts exhibition where we got to see Horridus the Triceratops! We learnt all about the Triceratops and how they adapted to suit their environments and survive. They had a large frill which was used for defending and also finding a mate, they had a large beak-shaped mouth that helped them eat plants, and they also had sharp horns for fighting.

We had such a fantastic day (even if we didn't get to see our movie!)
