Principal's Address
Year 12 Formal
I had the pleasure of attending the Year 12 Formal on Saturday night with several other members of staff. The students looked fabulous in their formal attire as they enjoyed an evening of speeches, fine food and dancing. They were also presented with their final academic and ‘Striving for Excellence’ awards, recognising the effort they applied to each of their subjects.
I would like to take this one last opportunity to congratulate this group of fine young men and women for making it through the past two years despite all the challenges they faced. All your teachers are proud of you and the entire school community wishes you good luck for the next step in life’s journey.
Check-in assessments
Many of our students recently completed the ‘check-in assessments’. These assessments are standardised tests designed to assess the student’s current level of literacy and numeracy. The same students completed these tests, or NAPLAN, at the beginning of the year which allows our school to measure their learning growth in these areas. More to come on this soon.
‘Tell Them From Me’ surveys
Students, staff and parents had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Tell Them From Me’ surveys this week. The survey provides valuable information to the school on a variety of different topics including student wellbeing. The leadership team will now use this information to inform our planning for 2023 and beyond.
Hopefully you had the opportunity to have your say about the school.
Revised Primary excursion dates for Term 4
Great news - the Primary excursion is back on!
The office staff and Mr Stuart have worked miracles and found alternate dates for the excursion to go ahead before the end of the year.
The Primary excursion is now on Monday 12 - Wednesday 14 December 2022. There have been some slight modifications to accommodation and itinerary however, the excursion will still meet the same outcomes.
To fit this excursion in, adjustments have been made to other events. Please see the ‘Diary dates and notices’ page at the start of this newsletter for all the updates.
Year 10 Work Experience
This week, all of Year 10 attended their first week of Work Experience. This week is essential for the students to experience a career that interests them so that they know if it is their post school destination goal or not. I still remember my work experience weeks (I had two) when I was in year 10. I participated in a week with the Bourke National Parks and Wildlife Service before going to Parkes to volunteer in a veterinary clinic with my cousin who was one of the vets. Whilst I enjoyed both weeks, it helped me to realise that these careers were not for me. Eventually this helped me to choose teaching as my profession and everyday I am grateful that I did so.
Book Launch
Students in Years 4-6 walked to the Boorowa Recreation Club on Tuesday 8 November to attend the launch of the book ‘Tuppence, the Orphan Turbine’. This was a special occasion for many of the students as they had drawn pictures for the book and are now published illustrators.
The Boorowa Central School P&C received a box of these book. All students who drew a picture for the story will receive a copy and others will be on sale soon.
Thank you to the organisers for involving our students.
Anna Dreverman
It is with sadness that I wish farewell to Ms Dreverman. Ms Dreverman has chosen to take up a position with the Hilltops Council from next week and as such, has finished her time at Boorowa Central School. Ms Dreverman has been a teacher with the Department of Education for the past 6 years, and with Boorowa Central School as an English/History teacher for 4. Ms Dreverman will become the Hilltops Council Youth Engagement Officer, a role in which I am certain she will experience success. She is great at developing rapport with young people and using this strong connection to motivate them to bigger and better things.
I wish her well on this journey and hope she returns to teaching at Boorowa Central in the future.
Family BBQ
Our annual end of year family BBQ will be held at school on Thursday 1 December from 5:30pm. Please join us for a relaxed afternoon to celebrate the end of another great year at Boorowa Central School. There will be plenty of sausage sandwiches for kids and adults alike as well as cricket and other activities.
Please RSVP to the office for catering purposes by Friday 25 November 2022.
