Annual Concert
Caleb Wong and Lin Yatsuzuka, Music Captains, Year 12
On 19 August, students from Prep to Year 9 were finally able to perform at the Robert Blackwood Hall after two years of online performances. Students and staff had been looking forward to this day and their excitement was evident from the rehearsals.
The concert was successful and highlighted a variety of our instrumental ensembles and choirs, with many mesmerising performances on the night. One of the highlights of the evening was our School tradition of massed singing. The theme of this year’s massed singing was ‘home’ which reminded everyone of the importance of belonging.
On behalf of the School community, we are truly grateful to all the music staff, stage managers, backstage organisers and teachers who assisted during the day of rehearsal and the evening performance, devoting their time to making this concert successful.
In addition, a special mention goes out to the students participating on the night for their exceptional musical skills and passion for music.
Frozen JR. musical production
Our first Junior School production since 2019, Frozen JR. was performed by our Years 5 and 6 students, and reminded us of how much we had missed performances from our talented Junior school students. Two packed shows were a testament to how much anticipation there was for the show.
A cast of 70 students, supported by staff and parents, brought much-loved characters such as Elsa (Jiawei Chen), Anna (Nylah O’Neill), Olaf (Sam Loft), Sven (Farees Huda-Rahman) and Kristoff (Massimo Mammone) to life. Iconic songs such as ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’ and ‘Let it Go’ were highlights, as were the numerous character roles.
A shout out to Dustan Lin who played the Duke of Weselton; Savannah Burdon (Duchess of Weselton) and Oaken (Henry Song). Grace Anastasiadis (Young Anna) was impressive and Henry Bath (Hans) was convincing as Anna’s devious love interest.
Congratulations to the whole cast who worked so hard together to deliver two entertaining shows led by Director Fiona Radford and her committed and energetic team. Particularly captivating were the amazing costumes and the props and set which created a glittering winterland that never left you feeling out in the cold.
Kilvington Writers Festival EAL winner
We hold the Kilvington Writers Festival each year at School, to which students, staff and parents are invited to submit a written piece based on a particular theme.
This year’s winner of the EAL (English as an Additional Language) category was Year 9 international student, Shirley Jin, for her article titled Pieces of Broken Memories.
Please see an excerpt of Shirley’s winning submission.
'I was sitting on my bed, looking out the window. Moonlight came in surcharged with calmness and quiet, and I wondered if I was overstressed; overreacting about the math test that happened this afternoon, or maybe even more.
All the thoughts were bouncing around in my mind. I opened the window to feel the texture of wind flows on my face. My desk was quite big, with a radiant bright yellow light and a bunch of math sheets, exam papers, a memorable snow globe and a calculator.
Memories are painful, at least I believe they are. There’s nothing much to think of, really, just few broken pieces of images, words, or phrases that perhaps that I could not memorise.'
