Principals Report

Artwork: Stage 1 Mint

This morning, as I look out of my office window, blue sky and buds appearing on the trees, it is difficult to imagine that just a few weeks ago the landscape was white, covered in snow, just as beautiful, but starkly different. Spring is here and as a school we will embrace it's beauty and sense of new beginnings. Before coming to Guyra, 5 years ago at the end of this term, I had not experienced dramatic, seasonal change. I do believe it is very good for the soul.

At times, during COVID-19 and as we moved out of COVID, it has seemed that we have been trying to walk through molasses, with great effort being exerted to keep moving forward, and now we celebrate a quickening pace, perhaps a trot even! Our Year 12 students are in serious preparation for the HSC Examinations, with 2 weeks of face-to-face school time left. I would like to wish them luck with their process and thank our staff for their efforts. We will have the opportunity, in coming weeks, to support and praise the efforts of Year 12 students publicly, and I hope that you can join us for this celebration.

Our school buses are rarely in the parking lot of late,  with many students engaging with curriculum based excursions and sporting fixtures/competitions. It is always great to hear that our students have been very successful when attending these events. It is the phone calls and recognition, however, that comes from other schools/organisations commending our students on their behaviour and sportsmanship that sits highly with me, as the principal of the school. Congratulations to all of our students who have gone beyond the school to participate/compete. Whether it is sporting competition, debating, Agricultural demonstrations/competitions or educational/curriculum based events I thank you for your mindfulness and focus on our core values - Pride, Respect and Responsibility.

Thank you also to our staff who have organised and hosted other schools/competitions at Guyra Central School.

I would also like to thank our dedicated staff and caring and supportive parents, working together, tirelessly to ensure that our students get the best possible experiences. In recent weeks Mara and Anthony Grills have been particularly supportive. These wonderful parents always support our school, giving generously of their time and donations. I would like to thank them, in particular for their support and organisation of accommodation for our recent State Wide Merino Challenge trip to Dubbo and attendance at the Northern Schools Prime Pork Competition to support staff and students. Parent partnership and support provides enhanced opportunity for our students. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Grills.

It is with great pleasure that I can announce the appointment of our new Deputy Principal to commence Term 4 2022. Mr Tim Lloyd will return to Guyra Central School Term 4 2022. Tim made the decision to reapply for the Deputy Principal position of Guyra Central School and we could not be happier. Tim successfully completed the merit selection process to win back his position. Welcome back Mr. Lloyd.

We have also secured an experienced Head Teacher English for 2023 commencement. Ellie Auld is currently Head Teacher English at Moree and will commence at Guyra Central School 2023. Ms Auld is an incentive transfer into our school.

I hope that all of our Guyra Central School fathers had a happy weekend and a Happy Fathers' Day. Please take the time to send us photos of activities that you and your children undertook during your weekend celebrations. Perhaps reading together, bushwalking, time at the beach. We would like to be able to display some family fun photos at the school.

Thanks to everyone for your support
