TAFE Visit

Yesterday our Arabic and Assyrian community were given the opportunity to visit two TAFEs (Miller and Wetherill Park) in NSW. We went through different classes and workshops and were introduced to different courses and opportunities available for the students and community.

When we visited Miller TAFE, we were given morning tea with three other schools and given a tour around the area. The career advisor and assistant manager were able to discuss the different variety of courses offered, giving us a more in depth understanding of what is required for studying at TAFE.  They also explained different pathways students can take after completing their courses.

Afterwards, we visited Wetherill Park TAFE. Parents were able to see the different courses they offered on this campus.  This included construction, robotics, and science which provided students with an opportunity to learn about these fields, incorporating metal fabricating, welding, drafting and computer-aided design to create future innovations in manufacturing. The hospitality students spoiled us with three different meals, served to a high quality which all the parents and students enjoyed very much. Towards the end of the day, we met with the TAFE manager.  He informed us how he introduced the engineering course to Wetherill Park TAFE two years ago, and how proud he is that the subject is still taught today at university.

Parents were very fond of this excursion as they were made aware of the help and opportunities that are available beyond the school walls.  I would like to say thanks to Michael and the executive team who made this opportunity possible for all.
