Killara Academy

Excursion to The Italian Bowl, Newtown

Students in Killara Academy had the exciting opportunity of visiting the family restaurant The Italian Bowl in Newtown on the Tuesday mornings in the holidays.

The owners, Jenny and Alexi, spoke to our students about the background to their business. They explained the importance of setting goals, of knowing all parts of the business, looking after staff and keeping on top of all the jobs required such as accounts and keeping a financial reserve. They explained how they managed during the Covid lockdown by looking after staff and partnering with delivery services and they also supported the homeless in their local community. The Covid pandemic posed many challenges as they had to keep on top of all the changing regulations.

The students were fascinated by the challenges overcome by the owners, and they were impressed by the owners’ enthusiasm. The reports the students wrote showed how much they learned about the importance of a growth mindset.

Our students enjoyed their lunch of pasta and garlic bread. This food helped explain why the restaurant is so popular with locals and visitors alike.

Thank you to all the parents for their support by transporting them to and from Newtown. It was a great experience for everyone.
