Camp Year 9

Stanwell Tops

Year 9 Camp is one of the most anticipated events on our school calendar. This year, we were very fortunate to take our Year 9 cohort to Stanwell Tops during the first week of Term 3. Despite these unpredictable times and the cold winter weather, this event ran with success, and was enjoyed by students and staff who attended.

During the three days away, students engaged in activities that tested their resilience, determination and teamwork. Some of the activities that students took part in were the heart-stopping leap of faith, the exhilarating giant swing, and even abseiling off a cliff set within the backdrop of a lush, green valley and beautiful sea in the distance. Some teachers were also brave enough to take part in these activities. Students were also able to challenge their teachers in an inflatable obstacle course, as well as in a game of archery. It is also worth mentioning that a fan-favourite was the silent disco. Students sang and danced along to the music in the spirit of togetherness. Through all the activities, students were able to connect with each other and their teachers as they showed encouragement and support.

Students are constantly reflecting on their time at camp, emphasising on how they had a good time and had so much fun. The following students had these words to say:

Jarod A.: “I liked the activities, in particular the giant swing and high ropes. They were physically challenging and exhilarating.”

Ellie C.: “It was good that the teachers were able to support us in stepping out of our comfort zones when taking part in the activities.”

Andrea L.: “I liked how the groups did a variety of activities; there was always something new and different to talk about when we all came together.”

I would like to thank the Year 9 Wellbeing Team for working so hard to run this amazing event. The dedication and precision was impeccable, pinpointing to every fine detail to make sure the event ran smoothly. A big thank you goes to the staff who attend camp. External events like these would not take place without their willingness to come along and support students during their time away. Finally, thank you Year 9. You all were amazing at camp, and approached each activity with complete dedication and a have-fun attitude. That is what camp is all about.
