From the Principal

We are surrounded by inspirational people at Killara High School.

I would like to recognise the wonderful efforts displayed by our students on a daily basis. After a long period of instability, we now feel that routines and positive daily habits are getting back-on-track. Our students across Years 7 – 12 have displayed engagement in classrooms, labs, art studios, in the theatre and on the athletics field. We have students who display kindness and show genuine care for their peers daily, as a matter of routine. We have a special culture here at Killara, and this has been nurtured and developed over many generations. Our teachers are inspiring. During the vacation period, our teachers conducted workshops and learning events for our students, alongside delivering amazing lessons on a regular basis. Our teachers go above and beyond, and our students are the beneficiaries of the effective pedagogy that takes place at our school.  Our support staff are committed towards empowering teachers and students, through their collective efforts to support all areas of school operations. Our parents are our school’s greatest supporters. Our P&C, led by our President Megan Guenther, are dynamic, committed and engaged. We are truly surrounded by inspirational people.

Welcome Mr Date - Deputy Principal

I would like to welcome Mr Craig Date to our school. Mr Date is our new Deputy Principal for Years 11 and 12, and he manages the areas of curriculum, staffing, timetable and teacher professional learning. Mr Date brings a wealth of experience, and a track record of supporting students, teachers and families in improving student outcomes. Our school welcomes Mr Date.

Year 11 and Year 12 examinations

The entire school community wishes our Year 11 and Year 12 students all the very best as they prepare for their upcoming examinations. I encourage our senior students to always strive for your personal best, ignore the crowds, focus on yourself, your health, your purpose and your dreams, and don’t let anyone or anything get in the way of your aspirations. To achieve great things, you need to focus on small things. The entire school is prepared to support our senior students. Examination timetables and rules have been emailed to families. Please contact the school if you have any queries regarding the upcoming examination period for Stage 6 students.

Year 9 camp

Year 9 students participated in their camp experience from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 July. The challenging weather did not dampen the positive energy, as students participated in a range of outdoor and indoor activities. Fun, friendships, and positive learning experiences were key aspects of the camp. I congratulate our students for their collective display of teamwork, resilience, encouragement for each other, and care. I thank our teachers for their commitment towards this camp.

CSIRO – Our Future World report

The CSIRO’s Our Future World report is a document that outlines global megatrends impacting the way we live over coming decades. According to CSIRO Chief Executive Dr Larry Marshall, “Australia is at a pivotal point. There is a tidal wave of disruption on the way, and it’s critical we take steps now to get ahead of it." This document outlines some interesting points that may form the basis of discussions with your child.
