Important Information to Families

Major Incident in Murphy Street - Sunday 7/08/2022

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

In the early hours of this morning there was a major car accident outside the school resulting in the death of one adult. The street is not accessible due to being a crime scene, which is why the Working Bee was cancelled.

We understand this is a terrible incident to happen in such a small street like Murphy, and be outside the school.

I have arranged for DET-counselling staff to be at school tomorrow available to students, staff, and families to access, as required. If you believe access to this service would be of help, please contact the office by phone 9354 2928 to request access to the service.

Staff have been informed of the incident and will guide any classroom conversation with care and sensitivity. We understand this is an extraordinarily traumatic incident and therefore we feel it is necessary to support our students and community guided by trauma professionals.

What can you do?

To support your child/ren we suggest that a factful but thoughtful conversation take place at home sometime today to prepare students for tomorrow's possible 'playground' conversations. By discussing the incident at home this will certainly assist your child's understanding of the facts and not be engulfed in other's interpretations of the facts.

Traffic control & School Crossing

The school crossing flags will not be fully operational due to accident damage in the street. To support our Crossing supervisor we request families drive with caution in Murphy Street, and if possible minimise the need to drive to school and park in Murphy Street.

Thanks for your assistance
