School Council Update

School Council Report

School Council met on 6 June 2022, beginning with an acknowledgement of Country and a review of the previous meetings minutes. There was discussion about FPS’ role as polling station in the recent Federal election. The school made the decision not to host the ‘democracy sausage sizzle’ due to it clashing with the Trivia Night, which was on the same day. The school wanted to be mindful of demands put onto parents to volunteer across two events.

But do not fear fellow lovers of democracy sausages – the FPS Social Club are already planning a Bake and BBQ stall for the state election on 26 November!

Council discussed the success of the Year 5/6 concert and acknowledged the work of the specialist, classroom teachers and the community volunteers who went above and beyond to create such a wonderful community event. We reflected on how wonderful it is to be able to experience such great community events once more and felt grateful for the hard work that is occurring by staff and community across the school.

There were three events approved by council at this meeting:

  • Art4All: 11 – 13 November. School Council approved a motion that proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the visual arts program and reconciliation initiatives at FPS.
  • Fathers’ Day/Special Person’s Breakfast: Friday 2 September. Breakfast event approved.
  • Year 5 Camp: Wednesday 7 – Friday 9th September. Proposal to run Year 5 camp at Angelsea YMCA Recreation Camp was approved.

The Buildings and Ground Committee reported on several maintenance issues that are being addressed and put forward a motion to approve the installation of a rainwater harvesting system that will connect rain water that is currently diverted to storm water to all staff and student toilets onsite (existing tank to toilet systems are already installed on the gym building and the Wingrove St senior campus). Council approved the motion, making use of the Buildings Fund budget.

Council would like to take the opportunity to thanks FPS families for these valuable contributions that go towards making FPS such a pleasant and sustainable environment for our children.

For more details on the proceedings of FPS School Council, the minutes are published on the school website.
