The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The College Community gathered last Monday to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption.  We took as our theme:  We share the story of Mary, who took the Way of the Gospel.  This was an opportunity for all of us to take stock and reflect upon the way in which Mary, the Mother of Jesus, gives us the perfect example of discipleship.  Through Mary we are able to understand better the way in which we should live our lives as the followers of Christ.

Fr Luke Bulley provided us with a beautiful homily in which he highlighted the “raising up” of Mary through her glorious assumption and how, each of us, in our friendships and relationships should also be raising each other up – in and through the way of the Gospel.  It was quite inspiring and we thank Fr Luke for his encouragement and joy.

As a part of a reflection of the Feast Day celebration so students were encouraged to express their understanding of the Feast of the Assumption.  The image above was created by Year 10 student Gabby Castro.  Through the encouragement of her R.E. teacher, Mr O’Connell, Gabby expresses for us the depth of meaning of what it means for Mary to be raised, body and soul, into heaven and, for us, an opportunity to ponder in our hearts the way in which we can follow in the footsteps of Mary through our day to day living of the Gospel Values, just like Nano Nagle and John Baptist de La Salle.

Enjoy the following blessing prayer and may it a guide and inspiration to you in your life’s experiences.  It is the blessing prayer prayed over us by Fr Luke at the conclusion of our Mass last Monday.

May the blessings of Mary’s unwavering faith be upon us.

May her spirit of prayer live in our hearts and lives.

May the blessing of Mary’s loving service be upon us.

May her spirit of praise be on our lips and in our hearts.

May the blessing of Mary’s union with Jesus be upon us.

May her courage and patience find a home in our lives.

Wishing you every good thing,
