Classroom Updates
This week, we welcome back our Year 11's to the College after their adventure north. It's been quiet around the College and we are excited to have you all back in the classroom.
The Year 12's are racing towards the end of their schooling, with final assessments looming. It is often an overwhelming time and we encourage you to continue to check in with your teachers if you're struggling to meet deadlines; you will find that they are very understanding if you take the time to communicate in class, via email or by dropping into the Class office. We are here to help you make it to the end!

Plant and Animal Production Systems - Ms Kateland Jury
At the end of last term, a group of students attended a Lamb Survival and Post-Mortem course held on site by presenter, Ken Heart from Ewetopia Consulting. This course provided the students with the skills required to identify the causes of lamb fatalities. This in turn has improved their understanding of management practices at lambing to further develop their own management skills, allowing them to recognise and implement strategies that can be used to help increase their own lamb weaning percentages.
The Year 11 ATAR students finished off their salinity trial before the holiday break, coming to the conclusion based on plant height, weight and observations, that overall the barley treatments out preformed all the other crops as the salt concentration increased. This supported the students hypothesis, as barley is considered the most salt tolerant crop out of wheat, canola, barley and lupins. The students will repeat and improve the trial based on feedback and analysis, to confirm our knowledge and to grow the plants to their full growth potential under salt conditions.
The Year 12 ATAR students, with the College agronomist and a CSBP representative, performed plant tissue tests on their fertiliser trial and real time nitrogen level analysis, using a spectrometer to determine plant nitrogen levels in the paddock. The students not only gained practical experiences performing these tasks but the results will allow them to determine application rates to ensure that two of the trial treatments reach the protein percentages of 10.5% (APW1) and 11.5% (H2).
