Brisbane Ekka Excursion

Term 3 Week 3

Day 1

It’s Lights, Camera, Action! Kids and cattle all settled in well and behaved themselves nicely! We even managed to get interviewed for Ekka TV!

Day 2

Day 2 saw a great day of results for the Ag students at Glen Innes High School at the EKKA.

The Junior paraders competition was today with all students performing exceptionally well.

Notable results include:

Under 13’s paraders

2nd - William Wright

3rd - Ilyssa Newbury

6th - Lloyd Newbury

Intermediate paraders

Champion - Chloe Klinger

3rd - Toby Lamph

Finalist - Lily Cooke

These were very impressive results considering there were over 180 competitors.

All bulls were also weighed and scanned today and junior steers are ready for judging tomorrow along with student junior judging.

Day 4

Day 4 saw another tremendous day of results at the EKKA for steer judging, student junior judging, and teams judging classes.

Steer results

Class 18: 446-490kg

** 5th Wombat - Santa/Hereford x Simmental steer (451 kg) bred by Tristan and Emma Walmsley and purchased at the Say & Co potential show steer sale. Csc Agents

** Vegemite a speckle Park x steer bred by Bev and John Winter Speckle Park (485 kg) looked brilliant but unfortunately missed out on a ribbon.

Junior judging results

Over 220 students participated in junior judging with Lily Cooke and Susie Lockwood both receiving a Highly Commended.

Herdsperson competition

2nd - Glen Innes High School. This competition was judged by an independent secret judge who closely observed student participation, conduct, and overall commitment to their work. The judge commented that she was judging with the thought of: “If I was to select any of these schools to send my child to, which one would I be most comfortable and happy to send her to.”

Overall most successful school

We placed 2nd by the tightest of margins - 1 whole point! - which is a huge testament to the students, cattle, and partnerships we have formed here at the high school.
