Year 10 Orientation Day

The Year 10 Orientation Day was held early this year on Thursday 16 February. The purpose of this day was to spend time with students exploring the challenges and opportunities for Senior School. Students enjoyed a climb at Mega Climb, West Beach and lunch at Glenelg, as well as a chance to reflect and learn the tools and strategies they will need for their Senior School years.

The day was very hot and we managed to move the climb to an earlier time, thanks to the flexibility of the staff at Mega Climb. It is always a breathtaking view and the students who made it up the Crow’s Nest had a fabulous 360-degree appreciation of our city, hills face zone and beautiful coast. They also experienced a sense of achievement and appreciation for how challenging tasks take us one step at a time. Students displayed a resilient attitude, and we pray that this will follow them through the last years of their schooling.

Thanks to Esther Amoy, Daryl Porter, Mike Worley, Allison Storey, Liz March, Adam Wood, Bec Dal Santo, Kate Brice and Nigel Eaton who all provided their support to the day. Thank you to the Emmaus community who help us create such opportunities for our students.

Year 10 Work Experience & VET Pathways

Our Year 10 students have started to plan for their upcoming work experience week in June.  As you talk with your child about potential workplace options, I want to highlight how a well-chosen work experience placement can support them in enrolment into a VET course, if this is their pathway through Senior School.

VET courses are particularly suited for certain industries and for particular students who enjoy hands-on learning, with the focus on equipping and skilling students for the workplace. Work experience provides students with an opportunity to experience the relevant industry and consider if it's a pathway they'd like to take. It also supports a VET enrolment, which requires evidence that students have had exposure to the industry.

Below are some popular industry areas suitable for a VET pathway. If any of these sparks an interest with your child, please encourage them to seek out work experience in these areas.
