Harmony Day – Everyone Belongs!!

Yesterday, Tuesday of this week was Harmony Day across Australia. It was a great day to wear orange and think about the wonderful cultural mix we have in Australia.  We are continuing our Harmony Day Focus throughout this week, asking students to show respect for everyone, as we all contribute to a wonderful Australian Society! Being able to accept what is different about people is such an important part of growing as a person and as a community.  Each culture, tradition, lifestyle and personal talent adds to the quality of our own life.  We live in a world where we are able to easily move between countries and live wherever we want to. Australia has a huge variety of people from all over the world who have moved here and contributed to our wonderful society and culture.  All this week, we celebrate all that is unique about each person and all they can contribute to our amazing country!

We Show Respect by using Good Manners

Last week we focused on using good manners at school.  Using our manners when speaking with people shows respect. When someone is addressing us, or we are speaking to someone, we look at that person, listen to what they are saying and respond using ‘please and thank you’.  Using our manners also means not interrupting conversations, but rather waiting for an appropriate moment to speak.

St Patrick's Day!

Apart from having a great time wearing Orange for Harmony Day, last Friday we celebrated St Patrick's Day by wearing Green!  Thank you to Mrs Garnon and our Mini Vinnies people for helping to organise this fun day!  St Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland, and a very important person in the Catholic Church.  On 17th March each year, we honour St Patrick and the amazing work he did spreading the Gospel throughout many countries, by wearing green!

Kindergarten 2024: It seems like this current year and has only just begun and we are already thinking about taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2024!  Applications will open for enrolments at the beginning of next term, April 24.  It has been lovely meeting some of these prospective new students during our School Tours. Our Tours are taking place each Tuesday morning at 10am and Thursday afternoon at 4pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a look through the school and see and feel the family atmosphere at McAuley. Deciding where to send your children to school is a very difficult decision, and we encourage families to gather as much information as possible about their child’s perspective school when making this decision. If you know of someone who is considering sending their children to McAuley, especially in Kinder 2024, please let them know enrolments will be open soon and tours are currently on offer. For further information, please ring the school on 6361 3344.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students who sat the NAPLAN tests last week. This national test was brought forward into Term 1 this year, from it's traditional timing of Term 2. This year, all of the Year 5 content was online, and for Year 3, everything except the Writing was online.  The students can be very proud of their efforts.  We hope to receive the results earlier this year due to the earlier timing.  A huge 'thank you' to Mrs Cain for her coordination and amazing skills in making sure there were no technical glitches and all went smoothly!

Have a wonderful week,
