Professional Learning Community 1  (Grade 1 )

WOW what a great start to the year we have had here in Grade 1. Our students have settled in extremely well and they are enjoying some structure back in their days. Asian Studies and kitchen are a new exciting subjects that Grade 1s get to participate in and so far they are really liking learning about new things.

It’s really great to see so many students reading and getting their diaries signed each day. Keep up the great work guys!

Fete is fast approaching and we are seeking some unused/unwanted mugs to assist with our stall, if you have any laying around please drop them at the front of the office.

Here are some photos taken from 1C exploring and learning about ‘measurement’ during our Numeracy block.

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2 )

Welcome back and hello 2023, the Grade 2s have made a fantastic start to the year and are making regular improvements on daily routines and expectations both inside and outside the classroom. Our classroom teachers Mr Cox, Miss Dunstan, Mr Columbro and Ms Foster are looking forward to the year ahead.

Over the past two weeks, we have been setting up classroom expectations and working on demonstrating these behaviours to ensure our best learning is occurring. In Reading, we have moved on to making predictions where we are working well on being able to share what we think will happen in a text and justify our thinking.

While in Writing, we have been exploring fetes where we have began writing a narrative piece about a fete using wonderful powerful writing strategies throughout. We are looking to seeing all the amazing writing talents the Grade 2s have grown!

In Numeracy, the students have been exploring skip counting and place value where we have been breaking down numbers and renaming them to support our numeracy abilities. The students participated in creating their own bead string in which they can use to support their learning within Numeracy.

Please remember that the Junior School Captain Speeches this Wednesday, we are excited to hear the student’s ideas and listen to them present their speeches.

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grade 3)

Our Grade 3 classes have been hard at work this week!

We have been practising reading comprehension by reading texts and answering questions on the Chromebooks in preparation for the upcoming NAPLAN assessments.

In Writing this week we have been learning about descriptive writing and have begun writing our pieces about Summer, using the text ‘Jetty Jumping’ to generate some ideas.

In Numeracy, our focus has been on addition strategies and verbalising the strategies that are being used.

We are also eagerly anticipating the upcoming school fete. We know it will be a fun and exciting event for everyone and we can't wait to take part in all the festivities (especially the PLC3-run Disco Room!).

Don’t forget to ensure Home Reading is occurring every night and diaries are being signed.

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grade 4)

Welcome back to another new school year! We wonder what this year will have install!!!

Welcome to PLC 4! It is going to be a terrific year of growth, learning and plenty of FUN.

In PLC 4 this we have 3 classes in our PLC, 4A (Miss Fisher), 4B (Mrs Cottrill) and 4C (Mrs Williams). We are extremely excited about teaching your children and can’t wait to get to know you all too. We are settling in well to the start of this year by getting our classroom expectations ready to keep us on a good path with our learning. We can’t wait to see how far we go!!!

Just a reminder to bring back your school hats for Term 1 and please make sure everything is labelled so if it does go missing we can get it back to you.

Looking forward to a lovely year.

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grade 5)

Welcome to 2023 from PLC 5. This wonderful group of students has started the year off studying how authors use different vocabulary and techniques to engage their audience.

In Writing, it has been a busy start to the year with students writing some fabulous descriptive writing about the destruction, ferociousness and intensity of fire.

Numeracy has seen the students work hard on reading very large numbers- ask your child to try and read numbers that extend into the billions or trillions. A big focus has also been on place-value and this week we are working on renaming numbers.

PBL will be exciting this term as we build towards our Sovereign Hill excursion which will take place on April 4th and 5th. We are learning about the Australian Colonies and what life was like for convicts, free settlers and people travelling to Australia in the search of riches.

The students have finished their intensive two-day swimming course at Shayne Reese. They represented our school well and had fun in the process.

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. This week, the Grade 6 students have been working hard on simplifying fractions, which has been a fun and challenging concept for them to understand. We have also been discussing the difference between equality and equity in our writing lessons and how it relates to the world around us.

I would like to remind everyone that Friday 24th, Week 5, is Health Day. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable school uniform and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

In addition, I would like to remind all parents and guardians to keep checking the Compass portal for any updates on our upcoming camp.

Thank you for your continued support, especially during our open session this week, it was lovely to see so many parents come in to meet their new teachers.

Best regards, PLC 6
