Interschool sports for Glenroy students
This term Glenroy students competed in interschool sport competitions in cricket and volleyball. Students developed their abilities to work in a team while striving to achieve their best and to overcome doubts about their own and the team’s performance.
We had the pleasure of welcoming schools into our community for the volleyball tournaments and we saw lots of healthy competition. It was great to see how enthusiastic students were about participating and demonstrating sportsmanship on the day.
Our cricket teams traveled to Parker Reserve in Coburg North. It was a challenging competition for our players, but our students never gave up. I would like to thank our families who came and assisted on the day and to all the P.E. staff who ran training sessions for students at lunch or after school and organised, umpired and coached our teams throughout this term.
Fitness testing and wheelchair fun
Our year 7-9 students have engaged in a range of fitness testing, analysing their performance and developing plans to help improve their fitness in the long term. Students really pushed themselves to achieve their best especially when participating in tests such as the beep test and push-up test. Junior students also had a go at wheelchair basketball and you can see their efforts in the picture gallery below.
Our Year 10 Sport and Recreation class have been learning and coaching athletic events while Year 10 Health and Human Development created some wonderful board games to encourage healthy choices for young children. Senior students continue to work on understanding and promoting health and wellbeing, including learning about the health status amongst different populations in Australia.
Term 2 is going to be incredibly busy with a jam-packed interschool sport calendar. We look forward getting our students out into the community to compete in soccer, netball and Australian Rules Football.
