What's happening in Years 10, 11 and 12.
Welcome to Senior School. It's been a busy first term for our senior students, with excursions, events and special workshops to help them focus on doing their best in 2023.
Year 11 students had their first social excursion to Melbourne Central Strike Bowling. They learnt skills in travelling on public transport, sticking together in a huge public place and how to stay away from gutters (the bowling gutters that is).
Year 11 Biology students ventured into the city recently to attend a fantastic excursion at GTAC (Gene Access Technology Centre). The students extended their classroom learning while immersing themselves in cells and their structures. They got to use high tech fluorescent microscopes after staining cells to show different organelles and photograph single celled organisms through their microscopes and ipads.
Excited Year 12 Biology students followed up with their own excursion, where they investigated making insulin in the labs.
Year 11 and 12 students attended a Study Sensei session to help increase the productivity of their at home and at school study time. They learnt how to set up their study area and how to time out their study sessions and timetable their subjects to get the best out of every subject.
Year 11 and Year 12 students had a bouncing good time facing off in a bubble soccer tournament. There was lots of laughs and even a bit of team cooperation, as the photos below show. You can see more of the fun over on our Instagram page.
Students of Year 10 used their personal learning time to critically evaluate their achievement in the first five weeks of term. They looked at their behaviour, CAT effort and work completion to see where their educational pathway was taking them and made goals to increase their success in these areas.
Check out the latest delicious offerings from our Year 12 Foods class. Students had an hour to prepare a teriyaki salmon dish as part of a SAC. They served the salmon with zucchini noodles, steamed rice, crispy ginger, garlic, and peanuts. Yum. Take a look at the students interpretation of the dish below, then ask them to recreate it for your next family dinner.
Our College uniform, worn correctly, shows pride in ourselves and in our school. In Term 2 the Senior Sub-School will enforce the correct wearing of our uniform. This means we will confiscate any items that are not part of the Glenroy College uniform.
Please visit our uniform page on the College website to check uniform requirements. Then stop in at stockist Lowes over the break f you need to freshen up your Glenroy College uniform with more items.
In order to succeed, students need to bring the right equipment to every class. Pens, exercise books, text books and laptops are all required resources so please purchase or have these items fixed and ready to go day one, Term Two.
