National Young Leaders Day

Last week Amelia, Ri and Will made their way down to Sydney for the annual National Young Leaders day. Throughout the day we were lucky enough to listen to some amazing and inspirational speakers. Our day started with some sports stars Chris Green (cricketer) and Caitlin Bassett (former Australian Netball captain). After getting up and having a bit of a boogie the middle session got underway with the hilarious Nazeem Hussain. Eventually we stopped laughing and it was time to listen to his Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley. While listening intently we all felt like we were learning more about what we should be striving to achieve as leaders, this was captured with this quote “The job of a leader is to serve the people we are leading”

The day finished with listening to Dr Jordan Nguyen who is a leading Australian engineer, inventor and innovator. We learnt about how he helped Riley, a 13-year-old kid with cerebral palsy explore new levels of independence by inventing technology that uses eye movement to power technology and even drive a car. Our favourite quotes of the day were;

Will’s favourite quote ”Own your mistakes, don’t fear them” Chris Green

Ri’s favourite quote “One life persists to improve many!” Dr Jordan Nguyen

Amelia’s favourite quote “We all lead to teach those who we are leading” Governor General David Hurley.

Thanks St Joseph’s for allowing us to be involved in this amazing day!
