What must I do to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC)
In order to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge you must read a certain number of books between 27th February 2023 and 18th August 2023. Students in K-2 are required to read 30 books (these may be read to them) and Years 3-6 read 20 books. The table below shows the breakdown of books you are required to read.
Challenge level | Total number of books to be read | Minimum number of PRC books | Maximum number of Personal Choice books | Booklists included as PRC book choices |
K-2 | 30 | 20 | 10 | K-2, 3-4, 5-6 |
3-4 | 20 | 10 | 10 | 3-4, 5-6, 7-9 |
5-6 | 20 | 10 | 10 | 5-6, 7-9 |
7-9 | 20 | 10 | 10 | 5-6, 7-9, 9plus |

The Book Lists detailing the books you are required to read are listed on the Premier’s Reading Challenge website which may be found HERE. As these lists are over 100 pages long, I am unable to print these for individual families, so you will need to access them via the website. You are also able to access the Premier’s Reading Challenge Book Lists and Rules on the following link - 2023 Premier's Reading Challenge

Scholastic states that “Ordering books through Book Club is the easiest and most affordable way to offer students the best in children’s books for the home and to encourage independent reading for fun.
Book Club offers students a wide range of titles in each issue, from popular and award-winning fiction series and charming new picture books, to fascinating nonfiction titles and hands-on activities that stimulate creativity and encourage problem-solving.

Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting events in the library world is the August celebration of Book Week. Each year, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) recognises the very best books that have been written and illustrated over the past year. The books are divided into six categories:
The quest to find the 2023 Book of the Year has begun with The Children’s Book Council of Australia releasing the 2023 Notables List. From this extensive list a shortlist of six books will be chosen, which will then be narrowed down to one final book - The Book of the Year. If you are looking for titles of great books for your children, I commend this list to you. Should you wish to view the list of notable books you may view them here - 2023 Notables List
Would you like to find a quiet, cool place to read a book, draw a picture, colour a picture, play a board game or solve a jigsaw? Then the library is the place to be! Come and join us in the library, second break every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - I'll see you in the library!
Please don’t forget that THURSDAY and FRIDAY are Library Days at St Joseph’s. Students will require a library bag on that day for the safe transportation of library books between home and school.
