From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of il giornale for 2023.

The first full week of school for 2023 has certainly flown past, with students and staff settling into new buildings, new teams and new routines. The new learning areas on the east and west ends of the college are certainly a joy to work in, with students and staff exploring the possibilities within.

We have welcomed many new staff and students this year and hope that they have experienced a warm welcome into the St Anne’s College community. As we grow as a college there are new ways of being that we are learning each day. I was reflecting on our first year of operation in 2019 where we had only 70 students and one stage of our building project. We have certainly grown physically, but also operationally and as a learning community. We are so appreciative of the patience and support of all community members as we learn to grow.

We have begun our resilience project journey, spending this week meeting Martin who features in many of the learning videos and will work with our students when he comes to Shepparton later in the term and being introduced to the principles of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy.

Our college wide expectations to respect everyone and everything, always do our best and help others succeed, are an ongoing reminder of our responsibility to ourselves and to others to ensure that our community is the best it can be.

Our opening school mass at the college on Tuesday 14th February at 12 noon will be an opportunity to welcome community members through the celebration of liturgy led by Fr Peter. The mass will feature reference to the 2023 CES Ltd theme “Let the words you speak always be full of grace’ This is a beautiful piece of scripture from Colossians (4:6) challenging us to walk with wisdom and courage for the common good. When we speak, our words have the power to break or connect communities. Throughout the year, we will focus on this word ‘dialogue’ in an attempt to understand the importance of really listening to others so as to be able to see each other’s point of view and work together towards common goals that have a positive impact on the world around us.
