Safer Internet Day
Tuesday 7 February was Safer Internet Day. The day is a global event that aims to bring together communities, families, schools and organisations from more than 200 countries to help create safer online experiences.
Technology has evolved dramatically in the past two decades and the benefits have been huge. These developments have also exposed us to many risks with real-world impacts, making online safety awareness even more important. In 2023 the theme was Connect. Reflect. Protect.
Connect safely and with purpose – by keeping apps and devices secure and using social media in positive ways.
Reflect before we act – by taking a moment to consider how what we do and say online may affect others.
Protect ourselves and others by taking action – by telling family, friends or colleagues about eSafety and how we can help.
By following the tips in the poster and other resources we can work towards making every day a Safer Internet Day at Scoresby Secondary College
As part of the day’s students were all provided a copy of a number of resources via Compass.
Each year students are reminded about the safe use of technology, provided a copy of our College ICT Policy and will participate in programs offered to support student safety online. The poster included in this newsletter includes a link to the eSafety website. There are lots of resources and advice that can be accessed by students and families including strategies for supporting students experiencing difficulty online.

Welcome Back To All
The excitement for students as they commenced the new school year was really noticeable, and very uplifting for all staff. It was clearly evident, from the beginning of Term 1, that students are focused on their learning, as we continue with regular face to face teaching.
We have moved to a new web based timetabling package. In future, students will select and submit their subject preferences on line. Through advanced algorithms developed with Deakin University our new timetabling package will enable us to deliver more favourable outcomes for our students with their subject selections for 2024 and beyond.
Next week also sees our VCE teachers commence unpacking their results from 2022.
Our VCE results were the best for a Government School in the City of Knox. We follow the same processes as we do with our students. That is, to identify our teaching strengths and continue to develop these, while also identifying possible areas for improvement to enable our results to continue to improve through enhancing our pedagogical practices.
