SHOWCASE
The following subjects being showcased encourage creativity and innovation. By utilising the design process, idea development techniques and practicing continued reflection, it enables students to think outside the box with fresh ideas. This is an important skill to have within many industries.
Pinch pot, coil, score and slip. These are new terms that the Year 7 students have learnt in making their spoon which was the starter project for Ceramics. Students are also using these same processes and terms in making their coral reef. Here are designs of what students are planning to bring to life using clay....
Students have captured the realism of coral as they have started their clay construction.
This year, students in Year 8 get to experience a range of materials across the Visual Arts and Design Technology. Within the semester they get to explore the work of Tim Burton, look at the style of Jimmy Pike and learn about the design process in Design Technology as they make an acrylic keyring. Here is some of their work in progress....
Tim Burton as inspiration
Designing their acrylic key ring
In "Directors Cut" students had 10 mins to create an opening to a film and establish the main character, the theme, use sound and editing and only show the opening. Check out, and watch out, for the Zombie Apocalypse!
Students in Behind the Lens have started looking at influential Photographers throughout history and have started to take their own photos in black and white. They have had a lot of fun learning how to take effective photographs; using rule of thirds, angles and composition.
Sensational Sculpture is providing students with a great opportunity to construct a three dinetional form using different materials. Their first project is to make a bowl or vase using clay. To construct the vessel students are using the coil technique which will then be smoothed out for them to add mosaic tiles. Here are some of their vessels under construction....
Year 10 Textiles students started the year recapping skills from last year. They have made a large drawstring bag incorporating jar dying and a heat transfer design using the cricut machine. This bag will hold all their work for the semester.
Year 10 have been experimenting with the skill of 'observational drawing'. Observational Drawing allows the drawer/designer to really study an object in order to draw inspiration from it. The students studied artist Marcello Barenghi, a hyper-realist artist and then applied his techniques to their own hyper real drawing of "lollies".
To start their design journey in Textiles students were asked to plan a small Textiles storage container. They needed to create a design brief deciding on the end user (who were they making the storage container for) and choose the best materials to be able to sew/construct their container.
There were a variety of tote bags and pencils cases being sewn along with a dry felted bowl. Here are some of the completed projects....
The Year 11 students also supported Year 7 students in sewing together their Homegroup banners
Year 11 have been developing their skills in drawing as a means of communication. They have been practicing rendering techniques, observational drawing and experimenting with media, methods and materials.
