Science Update!

What do you call a biologist’s self-portrait? A cell-fie

All students have made a fantastic start to science at ECSC in 2023!

Year 7

Year 7's have been inducted into the lab and have been learning all about lab safety! Our year 7's have been excited to receive their Bunsen Burner licenses and are looking forward to starting their first Chemistry topic!

Year 8

Year 8 students have started the year learning all about Cells! They have learnt the difference between Animal and Plant cells and observed these under the microscope!

Below are some examples of students "Edible Cells":

Year 9

Year 9 students have started the year learning about Atoms and Isotopes! They have been learning about the difference between electrons, protons and neutrons.

Year 9 Selectives

Partners in Crime has been a hit again this year at ECSC! Below is the evidence that students collected following Locard's principle of exchange

Year 10

Year 10 students have been learning about the Periodic Table. They have participated in a range of experiments where they have explored the properties of metals and non-metals!

Year 10 Selectives

This year, Year 10 students have selected to participate in pre-VCE electives to help their pathway into VCE. These students have been diligent and hard working and fully embraced their learning. Below is an example of the the Surface Area to Volume experiment the Biology class completed and the Edible Cells model that was created

Year 10 Biology students were all able to develop their own Heart Rate experiment and create a scientific poster! What an excellent achievement.

Our year 10 Chemistry class have been learning about different chemical and physical changes.

Year 11

Biology

Students have been learning all about cell size and function. Students have participated in a range of experiments that have allowed them to apply their knowledge. Below are images of students completing the Gummy Bear osmosis experiment:

Year 12

Physics

Year 12 Physics students have been participating in practical investigations regarding collisions and conservation of momentum using concepts from projectile motion! They are looking forward to their Luna Park excursion next week!

Chemistry

Year 12 Chemistry students have been hard at work this term. Below are our students completing their first Chemistry SAC - investigating redox reactions. Great work year 12's!

We are so proud of the hard work students have been completing in Science so far this year!
