Performing Arts

Year 7 & 8 Drama

In Drama this term the Year 7 and 8’s exploded onto the stage exploring and experimenting with the Expressive Skills (voice, facial expressions, body language and gesture) to create short performances exercising each of the Expressive Skills.

The students design, devise, direct and perform their short performances based on various scenarios given to them at the start of the week and perform in their last lesson that same week. These weekly intensives on each skill have developed our students collaboration skills exponentially already building on their incredible performance and dramatic skills.

Year 9 & 10 Music

In 2023 we are excited to be running brand new selective music classes at these year levels. In Year 9, our music selective is titled "School of Rock". Students work together in groups and as a soloist, building core skills on instruments of their choosing. Beyond playing music, they also create music in an online digital platform called "Band lab", and we've seen great engagement from the students on this program.

In "All About That Bass and Treble" our Year 10 music students have begun their first semester of music at Edgars Creek and are well underway learning about the building blocks of music and how to practically apply them in solo and group situations. Students are developing their musicianship and performance skills on instruments of their choice as they learn how to create and cover music in a variety of genres, including how to use recording software and technology to support their learning.

With this being the first time we have run music in year 9 and 10, the students have enjoyed the opportunity to not only learn an instrument, but work as small groups to prepare their first song to perform in class. As the semester progresses, students will have the opportunity to showcase their new skills and knowledge to the wider College community as part of concerts and other performances.

Music Club

Music Club has launched, this year taking place on a Tuesday at lunch. It is a place for students to enjoy some time inside with friends, practice their tasks from their classroom and instrumental music lessons, or just have some fun on an instrument of their choosing. It has been great to see students treating our instruments and music rooms respectfully.
