Learning Conferences

Semester 1

Learning Conferences Term 1
Monday 6th March to Friday 17th March

When students set goals, they are more likely to persevere, be engaged in their learning, and aspire to face challenges and set new goals. Student goal setting amplifies intrinsic motivation, and the capacity to manage their own learning.

At LNPS student goal setting occurs throughout their learning process. Personalised student goals focus on LNPS Learner Qualities, English and Maths. Students set short and long term goals, identifying actions they will take to progress towards the achievement of goals. The goals set are specific, measurable, challenging and focussed on improvement. At times students may not achieve their goal, and this becomes a continued focus as their individual growth as a learner is reflected upon and celebrated. As successful learners, students seek help and feedback from teachers and peers to reflect on what can be done to progress towards the goal.

The purposes of a Learning Conference are:

  • reflection on the student’s learner qualities so far, Semester 1 Learner quality Focus - Independent, Collaborative and Resilient
  • analysis and discussions of the impact of this on his/her learning,
  • sharing of Learner Quality, English and Maths goals
  • the collaborative setting of evidence (what we will see and hear), between the student, family and teacher/s, to demonstrate success towards goals
  • “What WILL support this student to learn at his/her best?”

Each Semester we focus on explicit teaching of three LNPS Learner Qualities.

  • Semester 1 focus - Independent, Collaborative and Resilient;
  • Semester 2 focus - Reflective, Curious, Innovative

During the conference students, family members and teachers:

  • reflect upon and discuss Learner Quality reflection/analysis
  • identify Learner Quality goal and collaboratively develop evidence to demonstrate success
  • discuss English and Maths goals, sharing strategies to support this learning at home and at school
  • discuss strategies to ensure goals are met

Booking for Learning Conferences will be available via the Sentral Parent Portal from Monday 27th February until Friday 3rd March.

As per usual, if families have queries regarding their child’s learning at any stage of the year, they are invited to make contact with staff.
