School Norms

We will begin the term by revisiting the school norms and classroom agreement. The students will review the HPS norms and will set goals both for the class and for themselves. These goals will be made visible for constant review.

Respectful Relationships/ Resilience Project

The school focus for this term is Help Seeking. The students will review a bank of words to express their emotions and will revisit the catastrophe scale as a tool for understanding how big a problem is and to determine if help is needed. The students will learn about where they can source help and will explore the idea of five trusted people (good friends/ staff) they can trust to help them with a problem at school and five trusted people (family/ friends) at home. To practise their help seeking and critical thinking skills, the students will engage in help seeking scenarios and will study the story of ‘The Invisible Boy.’ To complete this unit, the students will create a picture book with a storyline based on help seeking.

Cybersafety Project

The focus this term will be the idea of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) when online. The focus is on personal strengths and the importance of being inclusive and friendly to peers when online during activities, groups, and games. We will discuss how it makes one feel to feel positively included and the impact of exclusion.

We will also focus on peer pressure when online. The children will define what peer pressure is and will discuss strategies for responding to and dealing with peer pressure situations.
