An update from our Stage Coordinators

Stage 4:

Welcome Year 7 & Year 8 to Term 1!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all Year 7 and Year 8 students for this 2023 school year. It has certainly been a big change for Year 7 students, and they should all be commended on the way they have embraced the transition to high school. We would also like to acknowledge Year 8 as they settle back into the school routine and continue to set a positive example for our Year 7 students.

Year 7 have been busy! It was pleasing to see their enthusiasm as they participated in Welcome Day. We would also like to thank Year 7 parents for their attendance at our recent Year 7 Advice Evening; we greatly appreciate your commitment to your child’s education and your involvement in school matters is invaluable.

The positive impact of our Buddy Leader Program, where Year 7 students are paired with Year 11 Buddy Leaders, can be seen in the confidence and independence that the Year 7 students are showing as they settle in to high school.

We were thrilled to see so many students wearing their uniform with pride and adhering to our school uniform policy on our recent School Photo Day.  Students had the opportunity to have their individual and/or sibling photos taken, and we thank you for your support in ensuring they looked their best.

Our school Swimming Carnival was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many Year 7 and Year 8 students showcasing their swimming skills and participating in a range of events.

We look forward to working with you and your children throughout the upcoming school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Regards,

Stage 5

Stage 5 - Years 9 and 10

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves as a new Stage 5 team.

For 2023, the Wellbeing Coordinators are Mrs Tanya White and Mr Tim Small, and the Academic Coordinator is Mrs Samantha Painter.

We extend a warm welcome to all students in Year 9 and 10 for 2023. It has been a busy start to the year with both the academic commitments of Stage 5 and the variety of extracurricular events that have occurred in the first few weeks. We commend all students for the ease with which they have acclimatised to the new year and new expectations of their courses. Feedback on these yeargroups has been consistently positive both for their engagement with academics and their wilingness to embrace College practices and values.

The start of term also has seen Year 9 participating in their electives for the first time. The positive feedback from the students has been overwhelming, with the diversity of chosen subjects a highlight for many students. These electives are a wonderful opportunity for students to extend their knowledge in an area of interest and provide them with the ability to develop skills they may wish to explore further in senior years.

We are all very excited to work with Stage 5 over the next 12 months and to have the opportunity to guide them as they progress towards Senior School. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any point.

Stage 6

Year 11 and 12 have hit the ground running in 2023. Both yeargroups have recently received their assessment calendars and are already hard at work in preparation for the HSC.

Year 11

Year 11 have had a busy start to the year. The Buddy Leaders have been working tirelessly with the new Year 7 cohort to help them settle into the College, and they continually show compassion and commitment to their role. A working party of students has also been established to look at designing the Year 12 jersey for 2024.  It was wonderful to see how many people attended the Year 11 Parent Information night.  Parents and students heard from a range of speakers explaining important aspects of the assessment process for Stage 6, as well as Wellbeing initiatives that will be implemented for the student body. This presentation is available for viewing on Student Central on Canvas if you were unable to attend.

Year 12

Year 12 have moved back into their academic studies with dedication and commitment. With just approximately 25 weeks of formal classes remaining for this group, they can now see the potential end of what has felt like, at times, a never-ending journey. We encourage them to maintain their focus and keep striving for their end goal. At the time of writing, an exciting event is taking place for Year 12 - their final Chev Retreat at Collaroy. The Retreat theme is Journey to the Heart, and past students always comment that this final Retreat is remembered as an unforgettable experience for everyone. We wish Year 12 all the very best as they make the most of one of the 'lasts' of their final year at Chevalier College.
