Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) – Update

Mrs Jayne Hill

We have had a very focused start to the year in TLI! The Grade Threes and Fives have been chosen to work on developing their skills in Numeracy or Reading this term, with a focus on improving academic performance, preparing students for assessments such as Naplan and improving self-esteem and confidence.

We have started concentrating on the Super Six reading strategies: Predicting and Visualising. We have worked through Naplan Practise Tests with an emphasis on reading the text completely, reading the questions carefully and identifying any key words, and finding evidence in the text to support our answer.

In Mathematics we have been working on Place Value concepts such as naming, making and recording, comparing and ordering and renaming numbers. All students completed a Top Ten place value pre-test to target their specific place value needs.

We have completed Naplan Practise Tests with attention to reading questions carefully and practising different strategies to work out the answer as a group. I have been impressed with how motivated and conscientious the students have been. They are all amazing.
