Badge Presentations for School Captains and House Captains

Congratulations to our School Captains: Adrina, Jenna, Jude and Isaac and to our House Captains: Mei, Bilguun, Milica, Thomas, Cyreentra, Aaron, Atrina and Ryan K who were presented their badges at our official badge ceremony. It was an honour to present the badges to our leaders and I know that they will wear their badges with pride.

I was equally impressed with the respect shown by our Grade 5 and 6 students throughout the presentation.  Another example of how our DPS students demonstrate our school values of Determination, Pride and Success.  I spoke to the students about leadership at DPS and that it can take many forms. While it is true that our captains and house captains have a specific leadership role in the school, and this is a high honour and privilege, at the same time we consider all our senior students’ leaders and role models to our younger students.

Happy International Women’s Day which was celebrated yesterday on March 8th.  This is an opportunity to celebrate and honour the special women in our lives and to acknowledge the many contributions and achievements of women around the world in the social, economic, political and cultural sectors.

MC Square Cladding replacement

Last week, Janet Richtarik the Facility Management Officer of Manningham Council, met with me to advise that following the 2019 Victorian Building Authority state-wide cladding review; MC Square will undergo cladding replacement.  It is expected that the works will take about a year to complete. These works should not impact DPS apart from some noise associated with the dismantling of cladding and drilling.  Please see the attachment below for more details.

Drop off/ Pick up and Parking.

I would like to remind all parents to take care when driving during drop off and pick up. Please be mindful of the children and families who may be around your vehicle.

If you are dropping off your child along Council Street. They must use the footpath to enter the top gate on Council Street.  I have observed students walking along the road instead of on the footpath. This part of the road is a turning lane for cars and therefore, it is extremely dangerous for students.

If you are using Hummel way for pick up and drop off, please ensure that you safely park along the left-hand side of the road (this may mean that you need to park further down Hummel Way or park in the gravel car park opposite our gym)

Please DO NOT PARK on the right-hand side of the road on Hummel Way as this creates a very narrow passageway for cars to drive through and it is dangerous for pedestrians.

Please be mindful of the traffic and pedestrian congestion along Hummel Way and Council Street especially at pick up time. It is very important that we are all patient and respectful of the road rules to ensure that safety of our children.

Please ensure that you use the school crossing on Council Street and on Doncaster Road when crossing the road.
