NEW - 2023 Easter Raffle

NEW - NAPLAN

Each year students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN testing. This  is a national literacy and numeracy assessment used by schools to determine whole school areas of strength and identify areas for further improvement. Students participate in online testing in the areas of Reading, Writing, Spelling and Grammar (Language Conventions) and Mathematics.  It should be stressed that NAPLAN is just one aspect of our assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by your child’s teacher, who is certainly best placed to give you an accurate picture of where your child’s strengths and areas of improvement are in their learning. While it provides useful information for our school as a whole, it is important to remember that these assessments give you an indication of how your child performed in one area, on one particular day. They do not represent a holistic picture of your child’s abilities and more importantly, their interpersonal skills.

I am often asked about the best way parents can prepare their children for NAPLAN. I would suggest the best thing you can do is to reassure your child that the test is not a ‘big deal’ and to relax and just do their best, as they always do.

This year NAPLAN tests are scheduled as follows:

NAPLAN Writing - Wednesday 15th March

NAPLAN Reading - Friday 17th March

NAPLAN Language Conventions -  Monday  21st March

NAPLAN Mathematics -  Tuesday 22nd March

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation in NAPLAN, please speak to their teacher.

NEW - Yr. 3-6 Richmond Club Visit

On the 14th of February all the Grade 3-6 students from Sacred Heart went to Tatura Primary School to meet three Richmond AFL players. First, they told us some information about themselves. We then did some Q & A and the students who got the questions right got a free Richmond scarf from the footy players. Afterwards the students all got to ask questions about the players. About half an hour later everyone who had Richmond merchandise or just a piece of paper could get that signed.

We got to have a play on the Tatura Primary playground, it was so fun. Once we got back to school we got to eat our snacks and have a little play, everyone was exhausted.

At the end of the day I think everyone will remember how fun the day was.

Thank you to Tatura Primary for the invitation to meet the Richmond players and stay for playtime.

NEW - Religious Education Institutions and Anti-Discrimination Laws Inquiry

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) current Inquiry into the Framework of Religious Exemptions in Anti-Discrimination Legislation has produced a Consultation Paper which proposes severe limits on the ability for religious schools to appoint staff who support their mission other than roles in which ‘the teaching, observance or practice of the religion is a genuine requirement of the role.’ For everyother role it would become unlawful for the school to give preference to teachers who share, or who are willing, to support the religious beliefs of the institution. This would effectively remove the right of faith-based schools to express their religious identity and culture.

Archbishop Comensoli, along with other faith leaders, encourages you, as well as parents and other members of the Catholic community, to complete the following survey with an expression of hope to protect faith-based schools from further obstacles that will impede their ability to express our Catholic faith:
