Assistant Principal Report

A message & update from Erin McNamara

Good afternoon families,

Firstly, I would like to thank all parents/carers who made it a priority to attend the Meet & Greet Interviews in Week 4. Altogether, there were 342 meetings held across the week. These meetings are essential to developing a strong home-school partnership and ensuring that we can meet and exceed the needs of all students at Aberfeldie. Below, you will find an update on attendance, parking, and home learning.

School Attendance

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school. Here are some attendance tips for parents:

  • To explain your child's absence, use the Compass home screen (or from your student’s profile) and click the Add Attendance Note item. Alternatively, you can contact the school office.
  • Remember that every day counts.
  • There is no safe number of days for missing school –avoid taking a day off unless there are explainable reasons such as illness, funerals, Sorry Business or cultural observances.
  • Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term.
  • Contact myself, or Emma Beckett, if your child is having difficulty or refusing to attend school.

School Parking

Last week, we posted an update on the 'Pick Up- Drop Off Zone' on Batman Street after noting a number of incidents of blocked traffic before and after school. Please take note of the sign (pictured below) which indicates the no standing areas. Information on how to use this zone has been posted on Compass, including how to meet your child in this zone after school. We are currently displaying extra signage in this area to support the safe use of this zone and keep traffic moving through Batman St.

Home Learning Program

Thank you to the many families that attended our Early Years Home Learning Information Session last week. If you missed it, you can access the slides here. This week, Year 1-4 students begin home learning and will have a parent/carer note in their reader bag. We look forward to launching Foundation home learning in the coming week.
