Pinder Boor Certificates of Excellence

Congratulations to all the Pinder Boor Certificates of Excellence recipients for Semester 2, 2022. This certificate is awarded to students who achieve an APA of 4.50 or over.

The Certificate of Excellence is named in honour of CBC Perth student Alaric Pinder Boor, 1912 Head Prefect and Dux of the College. A recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship in 1913, Alaric was revered by staff and students alike and impressed all he met with his endeavour and dedication to excellence in all aspects of life. During his time at CBC Perth, Pinder Boor made the most of every opportunity to learn and make a difference, claiming academic and sports’ honours in equal measure.

Alaric Pinder Boor’s life was tragically cut short when he was killed in action during World War I when the plane he was flying was shot down over Egypt in the Battle of Beersheba but his legacy for striving for personal excellence and always giving ones best even during times of challenge and adversity lives on.

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, is the world’s leading self-development award for young people. It is voluntary, non-competitive and available to anyone aged 13 to 24. The Award is about individual challenge, rather than reaching specific standards set by others. Young people design their own Award program, set their own goals, and record their own progress.

There are three levels that participants can choose to start their award in; Bronze, Silver and Gold. The difference between levels is the time commitment associated (eg. Bronze Award takes 6 months for participants to complete where the Silver award can take 12 months).

The award has four components that each participant needs to show commitment in; Physical Recreation, Skill, Service and Adventurous Journey.

Congratulations to the followig boys for completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze/Silver Awards over their holiday break. What wonderful initiative you all have shown!

  • Biork Alia - Silver
  • Branson May - Silver
  • Declan Collins - Silver
  • Matthew Petagna - Silver
  • John Van Beek - Silver
  • Riley Keen - Bronze

Year 7 Waterwise Incursion

In Year 7 Humanities, we have been learning about the importance of water in our society and this week our students were fortunate to participate in an interactive Waterwise Incursion presented by the Water Corporation. The presentations educated our students on water as a finite resource, sustainability and the importance of water in Aboriginal culture. Students were also empowered to take action and become sustainability ambassadors. They dove deep into issues that are close to home such as drought and investigated the ways water is being secured for our future.

Year 7 Swimming Carnival

What an amazing morning we had on Monday at our very first ‘Class of 2028’ Swimming Carnival! It was a hot morning filled with excitement, fun and friendly competition. The boys showed great sportsmanship, and the staff were very impressed and proud of their behaviour throughout the day. The carnival was a great opportunity for students to showcase their swimming abilities and to support their peers in a fun and encouraging environment.

Congratulations to all the boys who participated and put in their best effort. Your determination and hard work were truly impressive. The races were intense, and we saw some incredible performances, with several students breaking their personal best times. The ‘Winners Cup’ went to 7.2 on the morning with a shout out to Chayse Pitt (7.2) who had an impressive morning winning all 3 of his individual races.

I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our PE staff who helped to organise and run the carnival on the day. Their commitment and hard work made the morning possible and ensured that everything ran smoothly. A special mention to the Year 11 Senior Mentors who were outstanding on the morning supporting and encouraging the boys and finishing the morning off in a hotly contested kick board relay, adding to the excitement. They are great role models for our younger boys!

Once again, congratulations to all the boys who participated and thank you to everyone who helped to make the day a success.

Year 9 Reflection Day

On Friday, February 10, Year 9 students travelled to the University of Western Australia campus and were given the day to spend time reflecting on their own journey, with the support of their Becoming Men teacher, Year 11 and 12 students and Year 13 Senior Mentors.

Year 9 students considered the behaviours they have demonstrated up until this point in their journey and made a commitment to the behaviours they want to display as they move into the next stage of their life. Overall, it was a fantastic day for the cohort!

Year 9 Begin the Becoming

The formal commencement of the Becoming Men Rite of Passage program was marked by an opening ceremony held in McCabe Court and using the Swan River as a symbol of each boy’s life and growth. Parents symbolically handed over their sons to the Becoming Men staff, entrusting them with their most valued possession for a year of growth and development.

By commencing the program with a formal ceremony, we are telling our boys that they are embarking on a significant year in their young lives, encouraging them to recognise the vitality of the year ahead and channel their energies into the growth and development which they are about to experience.
