Bust the Dust

The student Leadership team are very excited about including this amazing fundraiser in the whole school assembly next Friday.  We ask that students bring a gold coin donation for Rural Aide as Christmas is a time for giving and it would be a great opportunity for our students to reflect on those that are doing it tough this year.

Its called #bustthedust, its an initiative from a primary school in New South Wales that are calling for all schools across Australia to participate in an Australia wide rain dance to bring awareness to the drought and severe conditions farmers are faced with.

Year 5's @ The Melbourne Zoo

On Tuesday the 3rd of December, the Year 5 cohort went to the Melbourne Zoo as part of our Inquiry topic on Animal Adaptations and Ecosystems. Some of the highlights of our trip were the gorillas and butterflies. In the butterfly house, if you stood really still, they would land on you which was really exciting. When we visited the gorillas, one of the gorillas banged on the exhibition glass, we were scared and frightened but it was amazing to see. After walking around the exhibits, we had an educational session where a zoo keeper taught us about structural and behavioural adaptations. They taught us this by giving us bio facts to observe. Students then had to guess what animal it was. We found a family of apes, one called Satan, Dewai, Gabby and Kiani. We also found a herd of elephants, five female and one five-year-old male. Year 5's had a blast, we can’t wait to go back again.

Student Agency Highlighted Again

It is always amazing to have students consider, plan and look towards ways they can support the school, the community or address global issues. Tanya is one of these students who decided to support The Lakes Independent Reading initiative by seeking any quality books from within her community that could be re-used and re-loved in our 2020 classroom libraries. She created a flyer for her local community and organised a book drive and pick up. With the support of her family she has collected a huge range of books that will certainly support our independent reading next year. Thank you Tanya for your drive and initiative. We will all benefit from this.
