Business Mentors Needed

St Pius X College is holding an 'Australian Business Week' for our Year 10 students in November as part of their Term 5 activities.

On Monday 25 November we need assistance with Business Mentors who will come and work with our students for several hours here at the College between  9.30-11.30. If you are interested please contact Mr Steven Quilty  via squilty@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

A Supernatural Experience!!

Four students from the Year 9 St Pius X class were given the fantastic opportunity to attend the Japan Supernatural Exhibition at the Gallery of New South Wales. There, we were able to meet students from other colleges, to interact with as we were shown through the gallery’s enriching display of Japanese culture, in a collection sent to Sydney from galleries as far away as America. Here, we saw a variety of traditional and contemporary artworks based on the premise of Japanese Folklore, including Supernatural creatures, Samurai and Courtesans.  After we were given a tour through the exhibition, we were given drawing utensils and were allowed to explore the exhibition to write down ideas for a traditional Japanese work. To form the base of these traditional works, we each constructed a scroll from sheets of white-rice paper, brown paper and wooden sticks to create a scroll. After we had written down ideas, taken pictures of the works and began drafting, we were given felt tip pens, lead pencils and colouring equipment to form our pieces. While some of the other schools chose to form collaborations amongst themselves, we chose to share ideas and with one another and work individually.  All in our art class found the construction of their works to be very enjoyable, and the staff at the museum were encouraging of the creative ideas thought up by the students. Well done to James Maloney who won third prize for his artistic effort.
