NAPLAN

The NAPLAN testing has concluded and now begins the task of marking and collating the data.  According to the website we will receive the results sometime between mid- August to mid-September.

All students who participated in the NAPLAN tests will get an individual report of their results. NAPLAN individual student reports provide information about what students know and have achieved in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy. They also provide information on how students have performed in relation to other students in the same year group, and against the national average (over one million students participate in NAPLAN tests each year) and the national minimum standards.

JUNIOR SCHOOL MOTHERS’ AND GRANDMOTHERS’ DAY

Mass & Mothers' Day Stall for Candela Mission

It was fantastic to see so many mothers and grandmothers attend the Junior School Mass and morning tea. It was also good to see those who couldn’t make the morning tea come along to the morning liturgy.  I’m sure the boys appreciated you being there.  Thank you to  Mr Makarewicz and Mr Roche for their assistance serving the tea and coffee.

I would like to also thank you for your support of our Mothers' Day stall where all the goods are made by the women of Candela in Peru.  Every cent of the proceeds goes back to these women which assists them greatly.  The beauty of this situation is that the boys get to give a present that gives twice, one to their intended recipient, their mother or grandmother, and the other to the mothers of this community in Peru.  We received this message of thanks:

Message from Mary Rajca

On behalf of the Candela Mission I would like to thank you for your generous support of the Mothers' Day Stall.  An amount of $2,695 was raised from the sale of their beautiful handicrafts.  The money has been banked and it will be used by the women to provide the basic necessities for their families.

***FOUND:  After the Junior School  Mothers' Day Mass & Morning Tea - a black and white scarf.

Mr G Virgona - Junior School Sportsmaster

AFL:

Continuing our strong form, the SPX team had another good win, this time against Waverley 2. The team play is developing and great combinations of play down the field were pleasing to watch. Special mention to the great handball exchanges especially by Billy and Declan and to the unselfish kick pass from Zac to his brother Sam who scored a great goal. Lachlan Connell also demonstrated some excellent marking and positional play.

One aspect of our game that needs a great deal more practice is accuracy in goal kicking with many of the first points of the match coming from behinds from reasonable goal kicking positions. Remember boys that at training you need to be more focused on the simple drills and skills so that you can use them effectively in the pressure of games.

Thanks to Cavan Ryan and Xavier Dwyer for coming down to support and assist their team.

Player Points:  3 – Lachlan Connell;   2 - Billy Sykes;  1 – Jesse Reed.

We meet Newington next Saturday so please be on time for a team warm up at 7:20am.
