Past St Fidelis Student - Andrew Nabbout (Soccer)

Andrew Nabbout signed for Melbourne Victory's Youth Team for the 2012–13 season and went on to make his senior debut for Melbourne Victory in an A-League match against Brisbane Roar on 13 October 2012.

On 10 November 2012, he came off the bench in the 66th minute against Sydney FC. At the time, Victory was 2–0 down. Andrew wrote his name into Victory folklore by scoring a superb 78th-minute goal and then scoring the winning goal in the 91st minute of the game to help Melbourne win the game 3–2.

He made a total of 21 appearances for Melbourne Victory including 2 games in the final series,

In August 2013, the Lebanon National Team coach, Giuseppe Giannini, offered Andrew a place in the national team to boost their attacking squad. Andrew declined the offer, hoping that he could one day make the Australian national team.

His most notable moment of the 2014 AFC Champions League included his contribution to securing Melbourne's second goal in the club's 2–0 victory over champions Guangzhou Evergrande on 15 April 2014.

In early December 2015, it was announced that Andrew would sign for Negari Sembilan FA in the Malaysian Premier League  for the 2016 Malaysian Premier League season. During this time, he emerged as the top scorer for his team with 9 goals in 14 competitive games.

After half a season with Negeri Sembilan, Andrew returned to Australia and joined the Newcastle Jets FC on 19 July 2016. He made his Newcastle debut in a 3–1 FFA Cup loss to his former club, Melbourne Victory FC.

At the Annual Newcastle Jets Awards Night later that month, Andrew won the Jets Golden Boot with 8 Goals and the Ray Baartz Medal.

At the Annual 2018 A League Awards Night, Andrew won 'Goal of the Year' for his ‘Outside of the Boot Goal’ against the Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 20.

On 5 March 2018, he departed Newcastle Jets to join Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds for a reportedly expected $500,000 transfer fee. His Urawa debut was in Round 5 of the 2018 JL League Season against Jubilo Iwata.

In March 2018, Andrew was selected in the Australian squad to play friendlies against Norway and Colombia before the World Cup.

He started his first ‘International Friendly’ against Norway on 24 March 2018. He played as a striker.

Andrew started in Australia's second friendly four days later on 28 March against Columbia in a 0-0 draw. He played on the Left Wing and earned praise for his performance.

This month he was selected in the Australian Preliminary Squad for the World Cup in Russia and he is now part of the 26 man Australian Squad.

ST FIDELIS BASKETBALL STARS

Each year, talented Victorian School students have the opportunity to trial for places in various School Sport Victoria (SSV) ‘Team Vic’ State teams.

Once selected in State Teams, students participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. These championships offer gifted and talented students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian States and Territories.

This term, two St Fidelis Year 6 students, Kai and Caitlyn Petersen, have been involved in basketball trials, hoping to achieve the ultimate goal of selection in the State Primary Schools’ Basketball Teams. Last week, they became one step closer to this dream!!!

They were both successful at the Regional Trials held in Bendigo to be chosen to participate at the (SSV) State Team Selection Camp.

This is a marvellous achievement. We wish Caitlyn and Kai all the best at the camp. The School Community is behind you all the way!
